Alejandro González Iñárritu’s “Birdman” Scores Big at Golden Globe Nominations

Alejandro González Iñárritu, the brilliant Mexican auteur best known for “21 Grams” and “Babel’ was the big winner at the nominations for the 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards.  His latest film, the surreal dramedy “Birdman,” scored the most nominations with seven. Personally, Iñárritu was nominated for Best Director, the film for Best Picture (comedy/ musical) and Best Screenplay, while his cast’s nods include Best Actor for Michael Keaton, Best Supporting Actress for Emma Stone and Best Supporting Actor for Edward Norton.

The 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, will air on Sunday, January 11, 2015, live on NBC.

Other multiple film nominees were “Boyhood” and “The Imitation Game” with five nominations each.

A surprise in the television category was the Latin themed “Jane the Virgin” nominated for Best Television Series (Musical/ Comedy) along with star Gina Rodriguez as Best Actress.
