With its launch during the Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club, AT&T’s DIRECTV delivered the first-ever live 4K Ultra High Definition broadcast in the United States. Throughout the regular season, DIRECTV 4K customers will be able to watch the MLB Network Showcase games. These games have marked the first-ever live 4K UHD telecast of a Major League Baseball game in the United States.direct tv 4K Genie

What does that mean? Baseball and sports fans will be excited – high definition, which was normally only available in movie theaters or at IMAX cinemas, is available right in people’s homes with DIRECTV. With 4K UHD, viewers get roughly 4 times the resolution of HDTV including sharper detail, smoother lines and a richer color palette, so viewers can games as though they’re right at the stadium.

4K UHD – which is the rough number of horizontal pixels on a screen: 4,000 – is commonly referred to as the industry’s best picture format available today. Customers can view select TV programming with lifelike clarity and nearly four times the resolution of HDTV (8 million pixels instead of 2 million). 4K UHD goes by many names—4K, Ultra HD, UHD, Ultra High Def. Televisions with 4K UHD are increasingly popular and price cuts are driving increased adoption rates. In fact, the U.S. adoption rate of 4K UHD is anticipated to be faster than that of HDTV.
