Fort Lauderdale Comes To New York

With freezing temperatures taking over the North East many are thinking of warmer weather. There may not be a better time to head south to the beautiful beaches of Greater Fort Lauderdale. In our upcoming print issue we’re bringing you a complete travel guide on where to stay and what to do in sunny Fort Lauderdale.

But in the meantime the sun will come to lucky New Yorkers when Greater Fort Lauderdale takes over Grand Central. “The Beach Looks Good on You” event on Jan. 28 in Vanderbilt Hall, will feature live music, palm trees, welcoming beach cabanas, a hobie cat, a huge beachcam screen streaming live images of Fort Lauderdale’s beaches, giant sunglasses for photo ops, solar-powered charging stations for mobile devices, vending machines dispensing free “Hello Sunny” sunglasses for consumers who tweet #hellosunny, and much more. Flight attendants from GFLCVB partner JetBlue Airways will be giving away Greater Fort Lauderdale trip getaways every hour. The one-day event brings a Greater Fort Lauderdale beach day to more than 500,000 daily Grand Central Terminal visitors.

After the New York event, the “Beach Looks Good on You” promotion will travel to Chicago on Feb. 19, to Washington D.C. on March 18, and to São Paulo, Brazil, on April 29.

In New York street teams outside Grand Central will share the sunshine with free Greater Fort Lauderdale sunglasses and giveaways for chances to win a Greater Fort Lauderdale beach getaway. The following day, the Hello Sunny beach scene moves to JetBlue Airways’ JFK Terminal 5 for one week, through Super Bowl Monday.

“Greater Fort Lauderdale brings the warmth and sunshine to the Big Apple to remind our number-one visitor market that an escape from the cold and snow is just a short flight away,” said Nicki E. Grossman, president, Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau.  “We’re always happy to help New Yorkers start the new year by thawing out.”

From the seagrass to the sawgrass, Greater Fort Lauderdale boasts more than 34,000 lodging accommodations at a variety of hotels, luxury spa resorts, and Superior Small Lodgings reflecting a “beach chic” vibe. Visitors enjoy 23 miles of Blue Wave certified beaches, discover 300+ miles of inland waterways that run from the Intracoastal Waterway to the Everglades, dine at thousands of restaurants and eateries, get immersed in a thriving arts and culture scene and indulge in top shopping.
