Intellectual Seduction

You work out, eat healthy and dress well but that’s not enough to catch the girl of your dreams. To truly impress you need to show off your best asset: your brain.  Trust us… a good book, CD or movie can work wonders with catching a woman’s eye.

We’ve asked Amazon’s Book Editor Tom Nissley for his top book picks to pick up those chicks.   Our music and movies editors have also chimed in with their media flirting “musts” as well.  We’ve organized the products according to personalities and added in some bonus movie and music titles so you can really tailor your moves to these special ladies:Romantic Sweetie
Party Girl
Rocker Chic
Someone Else’s Chick
Intellectual bombshell

Romantic Sweetie:
Sweep her off her feet by exposing your charming, sensitive nature.  21st century crooner Michael Buble knows how to speak the female language of love, while a tear jerker like Up creates a great excuse for a “cuddle session.”  Nothing attracts the romantic girls more than a good love story.  In The Hand That First Held Mine, Maggie O’Farrell explores the magnetic fields that push and pull people in love.

Music
Crazy Love by  Michael Buble
Soldier of Love by Sade

Party Girl:
Time to party, but you’ll need more in your arsenal to keep her attention.  With a book like Sh*t My Dad Says, Justin Halpern’s makes  a successful leap from Twitter feed to book, and quoting his dad’s gravelly wisdom–“The worst thing you can be is a liar. . . . Okay, fine, yes, the worst thing you can be is a Nazi, but then number two is liar. Nazi one, liar two.”–will allow you to appear both earthy and ironic to the girl who just wants to have fun.  In the entertainment realm, a show like Entourage demonstrates that you can be a “thinking man’s TV watcher” while enjoying a good time with witty dialogue.   1 AM and she’s still down to party? Load your MP3 player with fun beats and engaging lyrics from Lady Gaga

Rocker Chic:
Rock her world by showing her you’re a tough guy who sometimes plays nice.   After all, what’s more attractive than someone who knows what he wants and doesn’t give a damn what anybody else thinks?   Pick up a copy of author John Waters’ latest, the trashy dandy who has made a career out of making just the kind of movies he wanted to make, and now celebrates his own peculiar and passionate set of heroes in Role Models. If anybody can make Johnny Mathis cool, he can.    However, you’ll need more than Mathis to impress this tune lover and a disc like Fever by Bullet for My Valentine will ensure you some rock cred.

Someone else’s chick:
Many may try but few will succeed.  A movie like It’s Complicated is a blatant way to get her thinking about possibilities- the entire movie is about an affair after all.   After breaking the ice, you can double down your bet with a read about multiple loves: The Lonely Polygamist.  Four wives are both too much and not enough in Brady Udall’s funny and sad novel of beset manhood, which will provide plenty of conversation openings with its still-haven’t-found-what-I’m-looking-for title and the loud guffaws you’ll emit while reading it. And nothing seals the scandal more than candlelight and the latest from Usher flowing through your speakers.

Intellectual Bombshell:
No free meal ticket here.  Celebrating witty, successful men whom “you admire” is always a good way to go.  If she still needs convincing, you can really wow her with your literary prowess.  A book like David Mitchell’s The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet is an A+ choice.  In books like Cloud Atlas and Number9Dream, author David Mitchell has established himself as the brainiac novelist with a heart: Pynchon without the paranoia, a DeLillo you can curl up with, and his new novel (with its gorgeous cover that will catch any subway rider’s eye) is another mind-expanding romp.
