Meets NYC will launch a new culinary destination festival this Fall in New York City: Puerto Rico Meets NYC (PRMNYC).  From Wednesday September 30 through Sunday October 4, Puerto Rico’s best chefs, including José Santaella, Mario Pagan and Wilo Benet will descend upon the City to participate and collaborate with New York’s top culinary talent, including Eric Ripert, Joseph “JJ” Johnson and Camille Becerra in a series of dinners and multi-format events in venues throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn. Tickets are now on sale to the public, and can be purchased via Eventbrite here.PRMNYC1

The Meets NYC concept aims to both entertain and educate New York City’s hungry dining audience on the culinary legacies of destinations around the globe. “With so manydining options to choose from, it’s hard to focus New Yorkers on culinary events,” explains Meets NYC founder Marie Elena Martinez. “Meets NYC hones in on a destination and highlights the intersections of visiting chefs and New York’s own treasured talent for unique, one-night-only pairings. We attempt to move the envelope on international culinary tourism, by embracing the city that does culinary tourism best: NYC.”

Launch sponsors and partners for PRMNYC include Popular Community Bank, Puerto Rico Tourism Company, El Museo del Barrio, Rums of Puerto Rico, James Beard Foundation, Chefs Club by Food and Wine, La Reserva de La Familia Serralles, Chef’s Roll, Buena Mesa Magazine, Edible, Don Q, and Chef Works with more to be announced shortly.

With Puerto Rico Meets NYC, the stage couldn’t be better set. Puerto Ricans comprise the second largest Hispanic group nationwide, with New York City being home to the largest community in the United States. Close to 750,000 Puerto Ricans, or “Nuyoricans,” reside within the five boroughs.

The island, a mere 3-hour flight from New York, has been the recent subject of muchglowing media coverage, including food and travel features in such esteemed publications such as the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. By further shedding light on Puerto Rico’s best chefs, its rums, and the accompanying food and travel intersection between Puerto Rico and New York City, Puerto Rico Meets NYC will give this idyllic commonwealth its deserved turn on the Big Apple’s culinary stage.

“Puerto Rico is having a serious culinary moment. The on-island chefs are not only talented, but also dedicated to changing the dialogue around local ingredients, allowing their cuisine to shine as a result,” says Martinez.
