Although Cancun is an exciting destination with everything to do and excellent cuisine, it has never been known as a culinary mecca. That may soon change with the recent opening of Tempo by Martin Berasategui at the newly relaunched luxury resort Paradisus Cancun. Don’t be surprised to see international foodies on pilgrimage to their new temple in the sun.

It’s hard to believe an all inclusive resort has such a restaurant as Tempo by Martin Berasategui. But then again Melia Hotels International recognized early on the value of entering into a restaurant venture with one of the best chefs in the world. Now the Paradisus brand is the only all-inclusive hotel concept in the Americas to offer cuisine by a Michelin-starred chef. Paradisus now boasts four Berasategui restaurants, with more to come.

For a little background, Martin Berasategui has amassed six Michelin stars and is acknowledged as one of the best chefs in the world. He says of his latest venture, “Tempo is an homage to Mexico and an homage to Cancun. It’s an enthusiastic cuisine, with equilibrium, with the feet firmly planted on the ground looking towards the future.”

Tempo is elegant, with a simple yet sophisticated style. The modern dining room is decorated in white with mirrored columns, leather chairs and floral accents. Service is impeccable, provided by a friendly staff that knows all the intricacies of a very innovative menu.

Although Tempo is part of an all-inclusive hotel, there is a nominal fee that’s required even if you’re staying in the property. But the great thing is that even if you are not a guest at Paradisus Cancun you are still welcome for dinner at Tempo.

And dining at Tempo is truly a journey of pleasure for all senses. Each dish is visually stimulating with an aroma that seduces and flavors that are a fantasy for the palate.

From the minute you sit down and are presented the three selections of butter (mustard, avocado, or salt) you know you’re in for an extraordinary meal.

At Tempo your journey consists of a seven-course tasting menu which can also be paired with wines from around the world. Yes, seven courses may seem extravagant to some, but believe me, each is better than the next and together they lead to nirvana.

Of course an a la carte menu is also available for those with a less hedonistic approach to dining.
Some of the menu options include potato and prosciutto croquettes, baby squid-stuffed tomatoes, soup, sea bass, and veal tenderloin with potato, bacon, and truffle sauce.

The dessert is exquisite and it all culminates in delicious petits fours.
Every single dish is truly a work of art.

Tempo is located on the ground floor of Paradisus’s Cancun main pyramid and open for dinner from 6 pm to 11 pm. A sensual and relaxing atmosphere, white glove service and one of the best meals you will ever have in your life; what else is there to say?
Tempo by Martin Berasategu has already been awarded 4 AAA Diamonds.
