Vivo Resorts & Residences, Puerto Escondido’s premier lifestyle oceanfront resort and real estate development, has added new voluntarism activities to its unique, Oaxacan-inspired offerings that benefit the local community and natural landscape. The new initiatives continue Vivo’s specialized blend of cultural enrichment and friendly hospitality for guests, residents and locals alike.

Vivo’s prime location was chosen after an extensive 44-criteria search, leading founder and former Olympian Cary Mullen to the tranquil hidden gem of Puerto Escondido. Determined to keep the town’s quiet charm and vibrant traditions flourishing, Mullen and his team founded Vivo Foundation, an in-house organization that invests in environmental initiatives, construction projects, youth programs, orphanage donations and agricultural improvements in the area. Those wanting to help can make financial contributions, donate books or other supplies to local schools, or spend some time practicing English with children in the orphanage. Vivo owners can also offer their condos to house volunteers throughout the year.

“When Vivo Resorts was just a seed of an idea in my mind, I recognized a huge part of my vision for pursuing this dream was to embrace the idea of being a good neighbor. To me, a good neighbor will help, nurture, care for and celebrate with the people and natural environment around them.”

A guest-favorite activity through the Foundation is the Palmarito Sea Turtle Camp, through which guests nurture and release endangered baby sea turtles once they hatch. The program has saved more than 300,000 turtles and encourages guests to be mindful towards the natural world while connecting with the local community.

For travelers seeking to further immerse themselves in the Mexican lifestyle, Vivo also offers complimentary Spanish lessons teaching language skills and integrating education into the vacation experience.
