Muscle cars. Spit shined with sparkling rims they come a
dime a dozen in every major city across America. Always a contender in the game
is the newly chiseled out Dodge Charger for men. On the flip side of the
coin is the Hercules of Nissan’s fleet designed to appease the more soft
spoken—the Maxima.
SRT8
Seven trim levels starting from a modest $25,595 that includes
292 horses under the hood, a set of 17’s, all speed traction control and
electronic stability control to help keep us safe from less experienced drivers
on the road– the Adonis of all muscle cars is the affordable to any fiscally
responsible kid who dreams of driving an Aston Martin. But for the grown and
sexy searching for big fun, Dodge significantly increased the stakes under the auspices
of two title: Charger SRT8 Super Bee and the almighty big dog Charger SRT8.
At the SRT8 level the exterior lines remain muscular but in
the overall look a definite shift takes place. A totally dominating blacked out
front grill including upper and lower honeycomb style air intakes, hood vents,
side skirts, a diffuser style bumper, a rear spoiler that leads your eyes down
to a flossing set of chrome exhaust tips and a set of 20’s—creates a far more
aggressive look to coincide in harmony with the 470 horsepower 6.4 liter V8
Hemi offering 470 lb-ft of torque. One day behind the wheel of the SRT8 and my opinion
of the Dodge Charger changed drastically to conclude that at the SRT8 level,
this car is a beast!
While the $42,625 Charger SRT8 Super Bee is a blast to
drive, it lacks navigation, a moon roof and a few other technological must
haves. But nearly all of the available options on all levels beneath the SRT8
come standard on the $46,925 SRT8. My favorites include a big-ass 8.4-inch
touch screen monitor from which you can challenge yourself on the open road or
track via the Performance Page’s ability to gauge your times and distances for
both 0 to 60 and 60 to 0. Oh yeah, they threw in a 19-speaker Harmon Kardon
stereo system so that every experience behind the wheel can be a full on
concert complete with your theme song for that day!
A stylish, full size whip boasting sublime handling, a
powerful engine with a fuel economy rating of 16 miles per gallon in the city
and 19 on the highway and nearly every option available in a car for less than
$50K is a rare find. So for the man who thrives on the edge of a tasteful
thrill, the SRT8 is the bitch you’ve always wanted to harness!
With a major focus on the all new Altima, which I’ll tell
you about real soon, I’m here to remind you not to sleep on Nissan’s sexy,
sleek and refined 4-door sports sedan– the Maxima.
Maxima was and is where the buck stops in the Nissan fleet.
In other word, everything they’ve got is in it! Then comes Nissan’s Infiniti
brand of luxury to compete with Honda’s Acura brand and Toyota’s Lexus brand. I
say that to point out that if while on Nissan’s website you should launch a
comparison of Maxima to other brands you’ll see Acura’s $35,705 TL, Toyota’s
$36,435 Avalon and BMW’s $34,900 328i, excluding any of the six trim levels of
Infinit’s G Sedans. With the 218 horsepower G25 from $32,600 to $35,600 and the
328 horsepower G37 at $36,400 to $41,000, a comparison to Maxima’s 290
horsepower V6 from $32,420 to $38,420 seems more than obvious to question. After
all, the average consumer in the game is likely to find it quite intereting to
know that he or she could have the prestige of an Infiniti brand with a little
more power for nearly the same price as a Nissan. But maybe that’s just my
thinking. And since I went there, I’ll be the first to confess that I have
always rated the Infiniti brand as an exceptional value on the Japanese luxury
front. I’m just saying…
For 2012, the smooth handling V6 Maxima took on a few
enhancements including a rather Infiniti-esque front grill, a dazzling set of
rear lights and yes—a stellar set of 19’s (and 18’s) in a beautiful alloy
design.
If you built from the $35,120 SV trim level, adding the $700
Monitor Package with 7-inch info center, rear view monitor and some other
stuff); The $2,100 Sport Package to include a set of 19’s, a rear spoiler,
xenon headlights, a dark finish sport grill with smoked headlights and the
$1,850 Sport Technology Package for a hard drive navigation system with voice
recognition and streaming audio via Bluetooth, you’re now over $40K. In the
process, your handling the road like a champ and turning heads every step of
the way!
