SPEED: The Hot List

28 Apr 2013 by Michael Andre Adams in Cars, Speed

Amidst a plethora of down right dazzling designs, futuristic technology and superior performance we present to you our HOT LIST 2013. The stakes were raised yet again, by the best of the best in cars for model years 2013 and 2014. Take a look at the new rides from Bentley, Jaguar, Porsche, Acura, Nissan, Infiniti, and Range Rover. For the discriminating hombre, here’s a taste…

Bentley Mulsanne

Bentley’s flagship vehicle–the Mulsanne, made its debut in March, at the Geneva International Salon d’ Auto.

Privacy curtains allow cabin passengers to ride incognito while surfing the web on the electrically deployed tables with iPad holders (since the vehicle is Wi-Fi hotspot for eight devices at a time), or simply in a do not disturb kind of mood.

Instead of staring at who’s inside, onlookers can gaze the three new colors of this visually stunning whip, being Dark Cashmere–a sort of warm grey; Portofino–said to give a new slant to the brand’s Pale Sapphire, with the velvety traits and rare purple diamond sparkle of Damson closing out the list.

That plus the power of 505 horses yielding 752 lb-ft of torque and it’s easy to understand how the Mulsanne could be considered as “The Ultimate in GRAND Touring.”

2014 Jaguar F-Type

The former entry level F-Type sedan dropped out of site a few years back to make room for the entry level XF. Reemerging for model year 2014–the F-Type is back with a vengeance, less two doors, as the new entry level convertible sports coupe.

From the $69,000 340 horsepower supercharged V6 engine in the base model, the $81,000 F-Type S with an additional 40 horses, to the mack-daddy F-Type V8 S with 495 horses at $92K rolling on a set of 20’s, this is one aint no joke!

Sleek in its design with the new Jaguar signature J-Blade headlights and LED daytime running lights, along with deployable door handles made know through the use of the key fob or touch of the electronically sensitive sweet spot, to the rear spoiler that raises automatically to reduce lift at 60 miles per hour and above–there’s nothing old about the new F-Type!

2014 Jaguar XFR-S

Act fast if you’d like to be the proud owner of this $99,000, 550 horsepower supercharged beast that scores 23 miles per gallon on the highway. Only 100 will be offered for sale in the USA for this particular model year.

2014 Porsche Cayman

If size matters, the third generation rear wheel drive Porsche Cayman is lower, lighter, faster and more fuel efficient than it’s predecessor, despite the increased gain in length. A 275 horsepower engine in the $52,600 base model, with 325 in Cayman S allows for 0-60 in 4.4 seconds.

2014 Acura RLX

While I have always been an Acura fan, sales of its flagship RL had been slow. So they sat out a model year (2013) to help build excitement for the relaunch of the dazzling new flagship RLX for 2014.

Once you’ve moved beyond the exterior high marks to include sweeping lines that begin with a commanding front fascia with a set of captivating ta-tas (or headlights), you can begin to take note of the following: An all-new 310-horsepower V-6 engine that’s expected to earn best-in-class estimated EPA fuel economy (20 miles per gallon city, 31 highway for a combined 24 mpg); Precision All-Wheel Steer™ (P-AWS) to achieve new levels of handling agility and the soon to debut (mid 2013) Sport Hybrid Super Handling All-Wheel Drive® (Sport Hybrid SH-AWD®) expected to earn a 30 city/30 highway/30 combined fuel economy rating.

2014 Infinit Q50

Back in December of 2012, at the mere talk of the January 2013 debut of the new Q50, Infiniti quickly reached a million fans in anticipation of the new luxury sports sedan that was to come.

Well established as a pack leader when it comes to technology, it’s only natural to expect world’s first technologies such from the designer of luxury for the grown and still very sexy individual.

Q50 features such as Direct Adaptive Steering, Active Lane Control and a fully customizable digital environment for linking various driver settings and driving characteristics and an array of advanced functions, features and custom apps keeps the brand on top of its game.

2014 Nissan GT-R
While the average person may have no ides of what a GT-R is, car enthusiasts around the world worship this $99,590 whip that’s known to puts to shame many of the finest of the finest Italian sports cars.

A lowered center of gravity for improved comfort and high speed handling are the results of many new modifications. Big ups to the nameplate on which you will find not only GT-R, but the name of the person who hand assembled the advanced VR38DETT 3.8-liter twin turbo V6 with 545 horses producing 463 lb-ft of torque.

2013 Range Rover

At first glance I thought Ford Explorer. But a quick double take makes it quite clear that although Land Rover was once a Ford conquest, Ford is the recipient when it comes to design cues and not the other way around.

The new Range Rover–the first SUV with an all aluminum unibody is about 700 pounds lighter to propel the 375 horsepower or 510 horsepower Supercharged trim levels–each now with an eight speed transmission to deliver a very slightly better than ever fuel economy (like, 15 mile per gallon combined over the past number of 14). But then again, you don’t buy a Range Rover if fuel economy is a concern.
