Four Myths about Premature Ejaculation

It’s known to affect up to a third of all men, yet premature ejaculation (PE) is rarely discussed. While PE is a prevalent sexual health issue in men, most men and couples shy away from discussing the topic due to the lack of knowledge and unfavorable myths surrounding PE. Dr. Mohit Khera, a nationally recognized urologist, provides his insights on PE and discusses what men can do to help alleviate the issue.
“Many men simply assume their PE will go away with age or conversely that it will never go away. However, these are both false; PE can worsen over time and must be addressed,” says Dr. Khera. “Luckily, there are effective treatments for PE that make living with PE manageable so PE sufferers and their partners no longer have to live in silence. For example, Promescent is a lidocaine-based spray designed to absorb below the surface of the skin.  Its process allows the product to directly penetrate the nerve-endings that control ejaculation to provide a more pronounced and effective means of prolonging intercourse and enhancing pleasure, bringing couples closer together.”

Below are four common myths about PE:

Only inexperienced men get PE:
Unfortunately, PE affects men of all sexual experience levels so simply practicing will not ‘cure’ PE. It isn’t caused by their sexual approach or lack of sexual knowledge, for many PE sufferers they are just born that way.

PE Goes Away with Age:
Most men who suffer from PE suffer from it chronically. It doesn’t go away or get better simply with age, unfortunately it often gets worse with time if left untreated.

PE is a Psychological Problem:
While there may be some truth to this, typically cases of PE are the result of oversensitivity. Since ejaculation is caused by stimulation to the head of the penis, men who are oversensitive in that area will require little stimulation to ejaculate.

PE is the Result of Early Masturbation Habits:
Masturbation habits are not related to PE. Studies have shown that men with PE do not do anything different than guys without PE when it comes to both early and adult masturbation practices.
