Opus Montreal: The European Alternative

24 Jun 2009 by admin in Home, Hotels

Just a few hours from the East or West coasts sits one of the most vibrant cities on the continent.  Montreal is the perfect alternative to a European getaway; a lot closer and your dollar will go further.

The Montreal region is an urban archipelago made up of more than 400 islands.  At the center of it all is the second largest French speaking city in the world (after Paris) filled with cultural diversity, festivals, music, fine dining and exciting nightlife.  St. Catherine in the heart of downtown has the highest concentration of stores and is the commercial center of Canada. And interestingly enough, the city has the highest number of tango dancers and dance halls in America.

Montreal has a population of 3.7 million residents and over 14 million annual visitors.  The energetic metropolis ranks as the fifth nightlife capital in the world behind New York, London, Miami and Los Angeles. Most of the activity is concentrated in five districts, especially the Plateau Mont Royal, the hippest and most creative neighborhood in the city.

With over 85 bars and bistros it has something for everyone. There are over 26,000 hotel rooms available in Montreal but when visiting the city one of your best options is Opus Montreal; an exclusive boutique hotel located in the heart of the action in Canada’s most exciting city. The newly acquired hotel is the second property in the expansion plans of Opus Hotel Group, a company that built its reputation with the highly regarded Opus Vancouver.

Opus Montreal gets its fare share of bold name celebrities and it’s no wonder.  The service is impeccable and the style modern yet laid back giving a nod to history. The original avant garde structure was built in 1914 and was the first poured concrete building in North America.

Now completely renovated, it has 136 rooms combining sleek minimalism with luxurious comfort in an Art Nouveau style.   The guestrooms are located in the historical ‘Edifice Godin’ and in a new modern addition; all steps from the hottest entertainment district and minutes from Old Montreal. All rooms are tastefully furnished ranging in size from 325 sf.  to 780 sf.

Standing out among all is the two story, 1,100 sf. penthouse Presidential Suite which has floor to ceiling wrap around windows and complete living room, dining room and kitchen.

Opus Montreal has plenty of space for private events with over 4,000 sf. of indoor function space and 5,000 sf. of outdoor terrace space.  Downstairs you find Suco Bar, a venue that attracts Montreal’s elite who come for the ambiance and a delicious choice of tapas, exotic drinks and the extensive selection of vodkas from around the world. The loft-like space is divided into 3 main areas: the mezzanine, the VIP section and the central bar built in Italian marble. The bar is back lit with orange mirrors, creating a unique ambiance while stainless steel sculpture works divide the space, creating added intimacy.

A few blocks from the hotel is Old Montreal, where the city first originated.  The district has an ‘old world’ feel with narrow streets and historic stone buildings.  It’s ideal for a quick stroll or a ride in the horse drawn carriages lined in front of churches or perhaps a visit to the Valmont Beauty Lounge, a world renowned spa that has as its motto ‘Where Art Meets Beauty.’ Here the works of Swiss, French, and Spanish artists are presented in an environment that is rich and serene; where treatments focus on relaxation and care with a holistic approach to bringing out inner and outer radiance.

Valmont was founded in Switzerland and benefits from a tradition of medical excellence and a demand for developing and manufacturing high end quality cosmetic products. Here you’ll find the finest relaxation and revitalization therapies, extraordinary service, extreme indulgence and a top of the line skin and hair care line.
