Guillermo Leon Cigars: Your New Vice

14 Nov 2010 by admin in Home

Nat Sherman’s flagship in Midtown Manhattan recently celebrated the launch of the new Guillermo Leon Cigars by La Aurora. For Guillermo Leon, the cigar is somewhat of an heirloom; it has been a part of his family’s legacy for 107 years.

The fruit of Leon’s aspiration to create “something with deep complexity” is a pleasure to experience. With its Habana wrapper grown in Ecuador and fillers from Dominican Republic, Peru, Nicaragua, and Brazil; each puff delivers a wonderful full-bodied experience. Its double binder consists of both Corojo and Cameroon, which add strength and sweetness respectively.  The namesake cigar is sold in four sizes: a Corona (5.5 x 42), a Gran Corona (6 x 47), a Bellicoso (6.25 x 52), and a Gran Toro (6 x 58).

Hors d’oeuvres were catered by celebrity chef Oliver Cheng. In keeping with the Latin flavor, mini shrimp tacos were among the culinary delicacies being passed around. The tremendous amount of flavor packed into the tiny shells was delightfully perplexing. Spirits included Presidente Beer and Rum Zafra Master Reserve 21 year aged.

The upbeat trumpet melodies by jazz player Waldron Ricks were a perfect serenade as guests chatted, sipped, and smoked. Anyone who wasn’t a cigar and rum lover before he arrived at this event surely left with two new vices.
