To celebrate October 21, 2015 – the day Doc and Marty McFly time travel in Back to the Future Part II – 3M dug into the DeLorean archives and decided to to take part in the festivities by using their automotive expertise to create a gold DeLorean.
There were only three gold DeLoreans ever made by the DeLorean Motor Company – until now. 3M was able to produce a fourth gold DeLorean by using a variety of 3M products, including vinyl wraps and window film, among others.
Marty McFly: “Are you telling me you built a time machine out of a DeLorean?”
Doc: “The way I see it, if you’re gonna build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?”
The DeLorean Motor Company built fewer than 10,000 cars. And three were gold as a result of a special factory project – until this fourth version now. To make their car even more futuristic 3M added 3M Wheel Weight System, which balances the vehicle and provides a smoother ride, better gas mileage and more even tire wear; and 3M Automotive Window Film Crystalline Series, which allows up to 90% of the light in while rejecting heat and blocking 99.9% of UV rays.
3M has been in the automotive industry for 100 years. They provide products for automotive manufacturers, dealers, autobody shops, and DIY projects. In fact, over 20+ 3M products go into the average car. The company has developed over 1,000 innovation solutions used in cars from the manufacturing line, to the repair shop, to the NASCAR-sanctioned race track, to your garage.
