Philippines… One Sip At A Time

While we’re unable to travel at the moment, there is another way to quench your thirst for adventure – through food and drinks native to destinations all over the world. One such example is Don Papa Rum, the first small batch premium rum from the majestic island of “Surgarlandia” in the Philippines.
With just one sip, its rich, sweet style, and fruity notes will ease your mind and start to wash away any worries, like the warm waters of a beach. Enjoyed neat or blended brilliantly into cocktails, Don Papa can be appreciated by aficionados and novices alike.
Below we’ve included practical yet delicious cocktails created by NYC Mixologist (Angel’s Share, Black Emperor) Ben Rojo. Each drink incorporates warm, familiar flavors that are easy to make and utilize ingredients you may have at home.
To note, Don Papa Rum is available for delivery via Caskers, Drizly, Warehouse Wines, and other local retailers.
Some cocktails to try at home:
WORKING FROM HOME (above)
2 oz Don Papa Rum
2 oz leftover coffee
0.5 oz maple syrup
pinch of cinnamon powder
pinch of cocoa powder
pinch salt
Combine all ingredients in your mug of choice. To enjoy cold, add a few cubes of ice and stir. Otherwise, nuke for a minute or so, then add a splash of coconut milk. Congratulations, you’re officially being productive!
SUGARLANDIA SPRITZ
3/4 ounce Don Papa Rum
1 ounce Aperol
4 ounces Prosecco
pinch sea salt
Combine rum, Aperol, and sea salt in a wine glass over ice. Stir until chilled, and top with Prosecco. Garnish with a roasted sprig of rosemary.
BREAKFAST FOR DINNER
1.5 oz Don Papa Rum
2 oz orange juice
1 tsp marmalade
1 tbsp vanilla ice cream
pinch of cayenne pepper
pinch of salt
If you’ve got a shaker at home, combine all ingredients with a scoop of ice and go to town. If you don’t have a shaker, toss everything in a blender with a half scoop of ice and fix yourself a creamsicle. Serve with buttered toast and a side of bacon, preferably with a bathrobe and slippers.
