The Ideal Wintertime Cocktail: A Jimador’s Old Fashioned

If anyone can recommend a good drink for the end of a long day (or year), it’s a jimador. These Mexican farmers spend their days harvesting agave plants, and if you’ve ever tried to do that… then you know that it’s no easy feat.

The tall succulents produce long, sharp leaves and are harvested the old-fashioned way: manually by the farm’s jimadors – a group which often spans generations of families who have perfected the art of cultivating agaves for tequila and mezcal.

Thankful for a successful harvest, these farmers celebrate with a Jimador’s Old Fashioned, a simple twist on the classic cocktail:

2oz of tequila (may we suggest Mijenta Blanco)

.5oz Piloncillo Syrup (made from unrefined whole cane sugar)

2 dashes of Chocolate Mole Bitters

METHOD:

Stir all ingredients with plenty of ice until very cold

Strain into a rocks glass with an ice sphere placed in the center

Garnish with cinnamon and an orange peel
