Olympic Gold Medal winner Bode Miller and his father Woody Miller, kicked off celebrations for Father’s Day by hosting a reception with Jose Cuervo’s Reserva de la Familia at the Viceroy Hotel in New York City. Bode shared his father’s important role as mentor, coach, fan and friend, on and off the ski slopes.
Miller is an Olympic and World Championship gold medalist, a two-time overall World Cup champion in 2005 and 2008, and the most successful male American alpine ski racer of all time. He is also considered one of the greatest World Cup racers of all time, and the 5th and last man to win World Cup races in the slalom, giant slalom, super-G, downhill, and combined − and today he is the only skier with five or more victories in each discipline.
At the event Miller proudly stood next to his father as he introduced the new Reserva de la Familia adorned with images from his racing days, gold medal moments and childhood with his dad.
Reserva de la Familia is the private tequila reserve of the Jose Cuervo family, and has been been handmade by ten generations of fathers and sons since 1795. Every year since 1795, the Jose Cuervo family has descended to their cellar for a private ritual where they share their finest Tequila reserves with a select group of friends and family. In 1995, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Cuervo legacy, the family decided to share this exclusive tequila with the rest of the world with the introduction of Jose Cuervo Reserva de la Familia.
The master distillers start with the finest ingredients and a proud tradition of craftsmanship, starting with the perfectly ripe Agave that is uniquely stripped of the bitter outer layer, leaving only the soft piña, or heart. The tequila made from the piña is then aged in French and American oak barrels for an average of 3 years, with batches aged up to thirty years also being added into the final blend. Batches of roughly 17,000 have been released every year since Jose Cuervo’s 200th anniversary, and each year they have quickly become a highly treasured collector’s item.
Each bottle comes inside of a wooden box that is adorned with the work of a Mexican artist, with each year displaying a different artist hand-‐chosen by the Jose Cuervo family. In addition to the decorative box, the entire packaging process, from the application of the unique label design to the red wax seal with the Jose Cuervo family crest, is done entirely by hand.
The extra-‐añejo blending process creates an incredibly different tequila than anything else available, with the
end liquid more akin to a fine Scotch or an excellent Cognac. The rich, mellow taste of Reserva de la Familia is best enjoyed served neat or on the rocks.
The tasting notes include a dark amber hue color; an aroma of oak, almonds, apples, olives, and cinnamon. The flavor is a rich oak, toasted almonds, vanilla, and cinnamon with a long and silky finish.
Reserva de la Familia is bottled at 40% ABV, and available in the United States for the suggested retail price of $150 for 750ml.
