All Star Code, a non profit that provides young men of color the skills, networks and mindsets they need to succeed in tech through coding and computer programming, is hosting their 5th annual summer benefit this Saturday July 28th in Easthampton, NY. The organization, founded by CEO and Executive Director Christina Lewis, will kick off the gala with a cocktail hour, auction, fireside chat and a technology project demonstration from All Star Code alumni. The benefit will honor Van Jones, President & Founder of the nonprofit, Political Commentator for CNN, Reshma Saujani, Founder and CEO, Girls Who Code, and Soledad O’Brien, Journalist and Executive Producer. Marcus Samuelsson serves as Honorary Co-Chair. The event will highlight the success of the past five years while looking toward the future.
Increasing professional access and STEM education for young Black and Latino men is vital to the overall growth of the tech sector, minority communities, and the US economy as a whole. All Star Code empowers young men with the skills, networks, and mindsets they need to create new futures through technology. The organization works towards building a world where every young man has the confidence to dare greatly, the safety to celebrate failure, the freedom to tell his story, and fostering entrepreneurial talent. It offers a Summer Intensive six-week coding bootcamp, and continued Alumni Services.
Few organizations prepare this under served group for careers in the innovation economy. Unlike most coding programs, All Star Code doesn’t just focus on computer science—it also introduces soft skills that are important for a thriving career in any field.
The benefit will have students demonstrating many of their their projects, an auction, cocktail hour and a fireside chat. Dinner is made by Red Rooster Harlem, and wine & spirits provided by Moët Hennessy USA.
All Star Code has educated almost 300 young men via our flagship “Summer Intensive” program, a six-week course that introduces students to essential web development skills, while cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset and a network of peers who also love building things that matter.
95% of All Stars have matriculated to four-year colleges, over a third of which are top 100-ranked universities. 85% of our graduates plan to major in computer science or a related field.
All Star Code’s Summer Intensives are hosted at tech companies, financial institutions, and enriching sites throughout New York City and Pittsburgh with expansion to new cities coming soon. Past All Star Code Summer Intensives have been hosted at sites including Facebook, Cisco, Bond Collective, JP Morgan, Goldman Sachs, Oath, and MLB Advanced Media in NYC, and Chatham University with more organizations joining each year.
