Christopher Nolan’s latest hit movie “TENET” is now playing in select theaters and features a custom-made prop watch designed by Hamilton. No stranger to the big screen, Hamilton also worked with Nolan and production designer Nathan Crowley to create a custom watch for “Interstellar,” known affectionately by fans as the “Murph.”
As expected for Nolan films, time is a central theme in “TENET” making the role of a watch even more important. A critical tool for “TENET’s” action heroes played by John David Washington and Robert Pattinson, the movie watch is an enhanced version of the brand’s Khaki Navy BeLOWZERO (seen in “The Martian” and “Central Intelligence”). The 18-month collaboration between the production and design teams of Hamilton and “TENET” began with a request and ended with our watchmakers assisting on-set with the final prop.
A favorite of filmmakers, Hamilton timepieces have played an integral role in films and inspired audiences. The 18-month preparation included technical development, testing and production at the Swatch Group’s lab in Switzerland where our engineers found a way to combine the needed technology with the display on the dial of our Khaki Navy BeLOWZERO. To meet filming needs, they produced dozens of the final prop watch and Hamilton watchmakers were on the movie set to offer support with the watch’s unique functions.
The Movie Watch:
A digital countdown display was added to the traditional analog dial of the Hamilton Khaki Navy BeLOWZERO, an all-black automatic timepiece made for action on and off the screen. This prop watch was only made for the film and is not available for purchase. Check it out here
To celebrate our collaboration with “TENET,” Hamilton designed a special edition of the Khaki Navy BeLOWZERO. Cased in lightweight titanium, it features a red or blue-tipped seconds hand as a reference to key colors in the movie and comes with special packaging imagined by production designer Nathan Crowley. Only 888 pieces of each color version are available, the palindromic number another reference to the movie’s storyline. Price: $2,095 USD. Check it out here
“I’m always impressed by Hamilton’s dedication to excellence and their willingness to think outside the box to create timepieces that do so much more than tell time,” says Crowley.
“This project was one of the most challenging and exciting collaborations I’ve been a part of,” says Hamilton CEO Sylvain Dolla. “It was truly a partnership of creativity that transformed ideas into a reality we’ll get to see on movie screens around the world.”
The Jazzmaster Seaview also appears in “TENET” on the wrist of the unnamed protagonist played by John David Washington during earlier scenes in the movie.

ABOUT TENET
John David Washington is the new Protagonist in Christopher Nolan’s original sci-fi action spectacle TENET. Armed with only one word—Tenet—and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time. Not time travel. Inversion.
The international cast also includes Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Dimple Kapadia, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Clémence Poésy, with Michael Caine and Kenneth Branagh.
Nolan’s directed TENET from his own screenplay. The film is produced by Emma Thomas and Nolan, with Thomas Hayslip serving as executive producer. The behind-the-scenes creative team included director of photography Hoyte van Hoytema, production designer Nathan Crowley, editor Jennifer Lame, costume designer Jeffrey Kurland, visual effects supervisor Andrew Jackson, and special effects supervisor Scott Fisher. The score is composed by Ludwig Göransson. Warner Bros. Pictures is distributing TENET worldwide.
