Today, June 8th, is World Oceans Day, and to bring attention to its importance two great brands have come together. DAVIDOFF Cool Water and National Geographic will celebrate their Pristine Seas campaign with a powerful infographic showing the state of the world’s oceans. The partnership will also expand conservation efforts this year to include actor Scott Eastwood in a new campaign. As the current face of DAVIDOFF Cool Water – Eastwood will join to highlight the importance of protecting the ocean.
The infographic reveals information and statistics on the state of the ocean today. Currently, 2.18% of the world oceans are protected by the Pristine Seas campaign. By 2020, the global goal is 10%. These are some of the important statistics:
* 71% of our world is covered by the ocean
* Over 50% of the oxygen we breathe is produced by our oceans
* A shocking 11 billion pounds of plastic waste was dumped into the ocean in 2012 alone
* In 35 years by 2050, the ocean will contain more plastic than fish when measured by weight
* 80% of pollution to the marine environment comes from land
* 350 million jobs are linked to the ocean globally and one billion people depend on seafood as their primary source of protein
World Oceans Day highlights the importance of protecting endangered oceans and celebrates DAVIDOFF’s continued commitment.
DAVIDOFF’s #LoveTheOcean campaign marks the fourth year of their partnership with National Geographic to raise awareness on ocean protection. Since the launch in 2012, they have helped 14 Pristine Seas Expeditions around the world from the Galapagos through to Mozambique, as part of their commitment to improve the world’s oceanic state. In addition to supporting the expeditions, it has created 5 marine protected areas totaling 1,713,518 sq kilometers.
For each DAVIDOFF Cool Water bottle sold, DAVIDOFF has helped to protect 10.000 m² of ocean. Previously visitors posted their favorite ocean pictures directly on the website or simply by using the #lovetheocean hashtag on social networking services like Instagram, Twitter or Facebook.
For each picture posted, DAVIDOFF Cool Water helped to protect 5.000 m² of the ocean. Nearly 40,000 Instagram pictures featuring #lovetheocean have been posted to date. With the success of DAVIDOFF Cool Water’s Love the Ocean activation, 2016 is more than ever a time of commitment for the preservation of the ocean all across the globe.
