Andaz Mayakoba Resort Riviera Maya was just named the #1 Resort in Eastern Mexico by the Condé Nast Traveler 2020 Reader’s Choice Awards. With more than 715,000 readers casting votes and rating their favorite travel experiences across the globe, the resort came shining through, a testament to the property’s focus on authentic culture, nature, wellness, sustainability and personalized service in a private, spacious and serene setting surrounded by nature.
Located in the private gated community of Mayakoba, Andaz Mayakoba offers a vast open layout surrounded by nature and spread out over 590 acres of breathtaking oceanfront, preserved mangroves and tranquil lagoons. The resort’s design reflects the native Mayan culture and features 214 guestrooms, including 41 luxury suites. It features programming that welcomes the outside in as well as sprawling outdoor spaces without the crowds, allowing guests to easily navigate the grounds on foot or by bicycle.
With amenities including an oceanfront pool, expansive white sand beach, nature trails, golf course, authentic art, multiple outdoor dining venues offering distinguished culinary experiences, luxurious rooms, cultural activities and more, travelers can recharge and rediscover themselves at Andaz Mayakoba as they immerse in the local culture. For meetings and events, the property offers 14,000 square-feet of versatile indoor and outdoor meeting space.
Upon reopening amidst the onset of COVID-19, the resort introduced reimagined experiences including expanded wellness programming, new culinary offerings, activities within nature, thorough cleanliness practices and more to ensure guests feel safe and comfortable. Andaz Mayakoba now has a dedicated Hygiene & Wellbeing Leader responsible for new operational guidance and protocols including staff certifications and training for hygiene and cleanliness. There is increased frequency of cleaning with hospital-grade disinfectants, implementation of enhanced food safety measures, hand sanitizer stations throughout the resort, protective masks and equipment for resort staff and social distancing guidance in public areas.
Andaz Mayakoba made other property-specific changes as well, including moving check-in to the open-air beach area, implementing a bicycle rental station where bikes are thoroughly cleaned and disinfected between each use, digitized restaurant menus that are activated, via phone, by QR code. This digital access is also given to the digital curator calendars, room service menus and other resort offerings.
Examples of Andaz Mayakoba’s new offerings include a new dedicated weekly wellness calendar with programming such as beach yoga and Pilates, Mayan meditation, SUP yoga, aquatic fitness, HIIT cardio, spa workshops (body scrubs, face masks, massage oil and aromatherapy) and more; a new Vegan Bar (VB) featuring fresh and seasonal Mexican inspired, plant based snacks and dishes made with sustainable, locally sourced ingredients; and an increased emphasis on authentic local experiences with updated activities on their weekly curator calendar such as guacamole making, tequila tasting, Mexican candy tasting, hammock making, Tenango embroidery workshops, and more.
The resort has also recently launched their “Work from Hyatt” workation offer, which is available for booking between now and December 31, 2020 for stays through March 31, 2021 with highlights including roundtrip airport transportation, daily breakfast, one dinner at Tinta del Pulpo, weekly laundry (limited to 1 laundry bag), and 20% off on all food and beverage consumption. As part of this program, the resort is also launching the Kimbo Academy for families. The program, which operates daily for children ages 4-12, includes four straight hours at the resort’s Kimbo Kids Club with three educational, cultural activities per day. Activities (there are 21 total), reflect the Mayan culture and destination, including experiences such as urban art mural creating.
