Eataly NYC Flatiron has opened SERRA by Birreria, a new pop-up restaurant inspired by the Italian countryside, on the 14th floor. SERRA, or “greenhouse” in Italian, will celebrate the culture and cuisine of rural Italy by serving up the widest selection of biodynamic wine in New York City and herb-infused botanical cocktails paired with regional dishes from Tuscany, Liguria, Campania, and more, all made with ingredients sourced from our favorite U.S. farmers and Italian producers.

Brought to life by Milkway Studios, the minute guests step into SERRA by Birreria, they are surrounded by hanging greenery in a down-to-earth atmosphere that draws inspiration from the serene Italian countryside. Whether guests are lounging with a Sgroppino — a frozen cocktail made with lemon, Prosecco, and vodka — or enjoying dinner in the greenhouse, at SERRA by Birreria, everyone is welcome to sit back, relax, and feel in tune with the nature surrounding them.

“Eataly is a market, and markets change continuously — it’s our nature. The new way is to always be finding new products. And for us, our roof is also something that we like to change” said Eataly USA CEO Nicola Farinetti. “We have a talented team, and we like to meet and decide: what’s next? This year, we decided that because sustainable farming is the future, we want to talk about the Italian countryside. There, among the hills, the best of Italy is created. We are presenting this new place in the Birreria style, easy and fun but full of content.”

Since no day in the countryside is complete without a meal that brings everyone together, SERRA’s menu features shareable items made with ingredients sourced from the best producers in Italy and the U.S as well as traditional Italian fare that celebrates fresh field-to-fork cuisine, such as the fresh Verdure Crude dall’Orto, a raw vegetable plate highlighting an array of rotating seasonal vegetables with accompanying dipping sauces. In addition, the menu will highlight the wild game typically be found in the Italian countryside, such as Coniglio Fritto (fried rabbit with lemon and herbs) and Pollo alla Cacciatora ( Cascun Farms Chicken with mushrooms, tomatoes, peppers and onions).

“Building relationships with farmers and letting the ingredients speak for themselves is what creates a deep connection between the food and the people,” said Chef de Cuisine Jackie Jeong. “This new concept is very genuine and representative of that and of a traditional meal in the Italian countryside, where ingredients are fresh off the farm and shared on a communal table.”

Perfectly accenting the food, SERRA by Birreria’s drink menu is expertly curated and includes a Negroni popsicle, as well as refreshing herb-infused botanical cocktails that use housemade syrups made with dill, ginger, rosemary, and more. Since warmer days are on the horizon, SERRA by Birreria will feature a fresh-squeezed lemonade stand with rotating lemons from different cities of Italy, like Genova and Sorrento, along with the option to add herbs and liquors to really cool down in style.

SERRA will be open through October. Hours of operation are Monday to Sunday from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Reservations are available on OpenTable. For more information, call (212) 937-8910 or visit Eataly.com
