With the Oscars around the corner, it is time to show our support for Latinos who are nominated this year. The best way to celebrate their contributions is to watch what they have created. On the extensive list of nominations for the 96th Academy Awards these four on your must-watch list. And with the different Verizon streaming packages below you can check out their work anytime.
1) Barbie: America Ferrera is nominated for Best Supporting Actress.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, America is proud of her Honduran roots. And while she is no stranger to receiving big honors like an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her role in “Ugly Betty” in 2007 or the Sundance Film Festival Special Jury Prize for “Real Women Have Curves” in 2002, this is her first Academy Award nomination.
Good luck, cipota!
2) Killers of the Flower Moon: Rodrigo Prieto is nominated for Best Cinematography.
He is also the mastermind behind the beautiful pink hues in “Barbie”! Prieto is no stranger to Oscar nominations; his work on “Brokeback Mountain,” “Silence,” and “The Irishman” says it all. Mexicans, bring out your “porras” and watch the work of one of our favorite chilangos!
3) Rustin: Colman Domingo is nominated for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
With a father born in Belize and an extended family with roots in Guatemala, this proud Afro-Latino is having a year like no other: being nominated for portraying Bayard Rustin, the main organizer of the “March on Washington” in 1963, and playing “Mister” in “The Color Purple.” But for zombie fans, we will always say “ciudado” with Victor Strand in “Fear the Walking Dead”!
) Past Lives: David Hinojosa is one of the producers of this Best Picture nominee.
Of Puerto Rican and Mexican descent, Hinojosa put his talents to good use in helping to bring this film to the big screen. “Past Lives” examines multiculturalism in a moving and honest way. It’s time to “tirar la casa por la ventana” and watch the movie with your loved ones.
