As a part of AXE’s third season partnership with the Council of Fashion Designers of America, the brand continues to celebrate individuality and every moment of self-expression during the recent New York Fashion Week: Men’s by supporting the Emerging Designer’s Showcase. AXE & John Rudiant, professional hairstylist, were in charge of preparing all the models for the different events, creating looks using the full line of grooming products in the new AXE Advanced Collection. Featured at NYFW:M was Mexican designer George Sotelo, who presented his latest swimwear collection for men under the label of Thorsun. Read our exclusive interview below.
AXE worked along with the designers to provide the grooming essentials aimed to help guys everywhere – from the runway to the streets – find their personal magic and express it freely to the world.
As the leader in men’s grooming, AXE introduced its Advanced Collection to help protect guys’ style with functional product benefits, including new anti-marks protection technology in its AXE Signature Antiperspirant Sticks. These antiperspirant sticks, all containing 48-hour fresh-smelling scents, help guys keep their dark shirts free of white marks and their white tees free of yellow stains – a technological breakthrough for both function and fashion.
Among the stand out lines at NYFW:M is Thorsun, a men’s and women’s swimwear line with the discerning and spontaneous modern traveler in mind, created by George Sotelo. Its thoughtful design using the finest materials and hand embroidered finishes make it the perfect suit for any moment during your trip.
We had a chance to go backstage and speak with George Sotelo, the creative visionary behind Thorsun.
HOMBRE: What can you tell us about your collection?
George Sotelo: It’s a collection called Thorsun. I began it a year ago. It’s a swimwear line for men, but I also have a line for women that you will see in this show.
H: What is your inspiration?
GS: The beach, I love to swim, I love parties at the beach. I’m also inspired by art; ceramics of Mesoamerican influence and modernism. My prints are mix of both.
H: Does your Latin heritage have an influence in your collection?
GS: Of course. Mexican ceramics are a major inspiration for me. I grew up between Los Angeles and Mexico, so I’m very Mexican but also very American. You can never leave that.
H: What can you tell young designers that aspire to one day reach New York Fashion Week?
GS: Always work hard, you can’t be lazy. If you have a vision, if you have dreams, give it all you got and things will happen.
H: What can we expect in the future from you?
GS: I want to grow the line. Begin doing men’s shirts and more products for women.
H: How do you feel about working with AXE?
GS: It’s a pleasure because I’ve used AXE since I was a kid. It’s a dream that AXE is here in my show.
