HOMBRE: Why the need to create this mattress company?
Joey Holt: When we began there was nobody selling mattresses online. We liked the idea of being the first, the challenges to be the first to do this. We were attracted to the largeness of this market. And lastly we all recognized that the market had changed. As you know sleep is the most important part of your day and people genuinely hated buying a mattress. We wanted to change that and provide a better experience.

H; What was the research involved in creating the mattress that you have now?
JH: There were a few things we wanted to be sure we provided customers. The first was being eco-friendly. We use plant-based material. Second we wanted to make sure the manufacturing itself was the cleanest. And third we wanted to deliver directly to the customer to save them money.

H: What has been the response?
JH: Customers love the idea of going to our website for mattress selection.

H: I was surprised to see you offer a 90 day return policy. What is the ratio of returns?
JH: We have less than a one percent return rate. Our customers are able to select their mattress based on a series of questions and we have a 97% ratio of satisfaction.

H: What is the importance of being organic?
JH: For us it’s being conscious of the environment.

H: What sets it apart from other mattresses?
JH: It all begins with our website. We make shopping a virtual showroom. The second is our customer service. Whenever our customer interacts with our website they’re able to talk to sleep experts, either on the phone or through chat, to make sure they find the right mattress. And in terms of the mattress technology itself, we are constantly researching and looking at how we can improve on what we currently have. With our new mattress line we use a material called Celliant. If you look at most mattress companies they don’t pay attention to details such as the cover, but we do. If you look at the memory foam itself most of our competitors use a petroleum base, we use a plant based memory foam. It makes us more eco-friendly which our customers appreciate, and also allows for a better night’s sleep.

H: You have six different types of mattresses, can you tell us the difference among them?
JH: The difference is what purpose each mattress serves. There is not one of our mattress that is better than another. It all comes down to personal preference.
Depending on your firmness preference, sleeping style, whether you sleep on your back, your side, your stomach; we offer a different type of mattress. There seems to be a trend where most mattress companies tend to think there is a one mattress fits all type of world, and it’s absolutely not the case. People come in different shapes, different sizes they have different preferences. People have told us what they want and that’s what we deliver with this new line. And so far we have been overwhelmed with its success.

H: What should one look for when purchasing a mattress?
JH: The most important thing I would advise buyers is to look for great customer service. If you can’t find a company that is customer focused I would not do business with them.

H: How did the company begin?
JH: We were all best friends, we met in college and then we moved to Arizona and started this. And literally when we started there was nobody else doing this. It was a risk, it was a challenge. Will this work? We are really blessed and fortunate to have customers receive the product the way they have.

H: Why did you decide to sell online to begin with?
JH: We looked at the way mattresses are bought in general. There were so many people that were frustrated. People compared buying a mattress to buying a used car. You go to a mattress showroom lay on 15 or 20 different mattresses over 20 minutes with someone hovering over you, watching your every move. With our website we are able to provide enough feedback on the product with our trained sleep experts that help you figure out your needs.

H: What is the future of the company?
JH: The future is to develop products that our billion dollar competitors don’t have.
