This year marked a hallmark for recognition of Latin talent by the Golden Globe Awards.
Starting with Alejandro González Iñárritu and his return to the podium – twice – to accept the award for Best Director, and again for Best Picture for “The Revenant.” Guatemalan born and newly appointed Jedi, Oscar Issac won for Best Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for his work in Show Me a Hero. Meanwhile Gael García Bernal won Best Actor in a Television Series, Comedy or Musical for playing the lead role in Mozart in the Jungle. Latino presenters included Jennifer Lopez, Eva Longoria, America Ferrara and Gina Rodriguez.
Last year Iñárritu received a Golden Globe for Best Screemplay of a Motion Picture for “Birdman.” His double win last night is a sign of what is expected to be a dominant award season for the brilliant Mexican director. His masterful work with “The Revenant,” under extraordinary hardships proved to be worthy of recognition, including garnering Leonardo DiCaprio his third Golden Globe award for Best Actor.
