With Super Bowl LIII just a week away comes big news from Michelob ULTRA. The 95 calorie beer has announced it will be releasing two spots in this year’s game. In one of the spots we’re about to make history as music superstar Maluma has a starring role, making it the first time a Latin artist is so prominently featured in a blockbuster U.S. Super Bowl commercial for the brand.
The :30 spot, titled “Robots” takes the stance that when it comes to enjoying a beer with friends, there is no room for artificial at the table. Here’s an overachieving robot as it works hard at physical activities like running, golfing, boxing, and indoor cycling. The commercial then showcases a group of real people – including award-winning Maluma – enjoying a beer while the robot sadly looks on from outside the bar, making the case that while the robots might be more productive it’s only worth it if you can enjoy the real things in life, like a cold beer with friends.
Maluma embodies what it means to “Live ULTRA,” by prioritizing his active lifestyle – but not at the cost of spending time with friends over a beer (as we see in “Robots”). With a mutual commitment to balance and “staying real,” Maluma and Michelob ULTRA were the perfect pairing.
The brand adopts the same mantra in the brewing process with regard to its ingredients; there’s an abundance of artificial in the world, your beer is one thing that shouldn’t be. With no artificial flavors or colors and only 2.6 carbs, Michelob ULTRA believes being human is about being fit and fun. This is a beer people can feel good about drinking.
Come back next week for our exclusive, one-on-one conversation with Maluma.
