Dia de los Muertos is just around the corner and though it may look different this year, we can still celebrate and honor this 3,000 year old tradition with a delicious Mexican-inspired cocktail.
From a crisp, bright and refreshing Mexican lager with a smooth taste and crisp finish, or their signature Chelada offerings, Sol Beer’s offering is the perfect salute whether celebrating Halloween or Dia de los Muertos this year.
Here we’ll bring you Sol’s Michelada recipe, as well as some tips from Jason Pratt, Sol Master Cicerone and Director of Beverage Innovation for Molson Coors North America on how to customize your Michelada to give it a little something extra.
Sol Michelada Recipe:
- 12oz cold Sol Beer
- 3/4 cup tomato juice
- 1/4 cup clam juice
- 1/2 teaspoon lime juice
- 1 drop hot sauce
- 1 drop worcestershire sauce
- Pinch salt
In a good chelada, you need a beer with a clean malty profile that can really help support the additional flavors from your added ingredients. Sol strikes the perfect balance – it’s crisp, clean and refreshing with just a touch of malt sweetness that blends perfectly with tart and spicy flavors from the traditional added michelada ingredients.
Fun ideas to customize your michelada:
- Garnish it with something salty like a pickle, green olives or strip of bacon.
- For a tropical take, add something sweet like sliced mango
- Rim the glass with a blend of dried chile peppers, lime and salt
- Vary your hot sauce – not only does this give you a chance to adjust the heat, but these sauces bring a unique flavor that can give your michelada an interesting twist
