Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning blasts into IMAX theatres on May 22, 2025 with exclusive Mission: Impossible IMAX Opening Day Fan Events, and it’s a jaw-dropping thrill ride made for the biggest screen.
Directed by longtime franchise visionary Christopher McQuarrie, his fourth entry in the thrilling series propels Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) into his most intense chapter yet. Every choice, every mission, has all led to this: an edge of-your-seat spectacle that pushes the boundaries of filmmaking.
With the most audacious practical stunts of the franchise – including a harrowing action sequence shot at 8,000 feet in 140 mph winds with no CGI, and delivered in IMAX’s exclusive Expanded Aspect Ratio – the film raises the bar not just for the series, but for the entire action genre.

Director Christopher McQuarrie captured heart-stopping sequences and delivers a full-scale experience. As one of summer’s marquee titles of the year with a dedicated three-week IMAX engagement, it will deliver scale, scope, and thrill to new audiences and longtime fans alike.
Featuring the most audacious action of the franchise – from history-making practical stunts and complex sequences to dynamic close-quarters tension – the intricate set pieces are an adrenaline- fueled spectacle designed for the unmatched scale of IMAX.
Exclusively in IMAX theatres, sequences of the film will visually expand to fill the screen, allowing fans to experience more picture than anywhere else. Amongst the adrenaline-charged set pieces is a breathtaking sequence shot at 8,000 feet in 140 mph winds captured entirely without CGI.
This is not just a movie, it’s a milestone cinematic moment for one of the greatest living action heroes and a truly iconic saga, and IMAX is the most immersive way to experience it.
Whether it’s the large screens and incredible lifelike visuals or the heart-pounding precision audio and unique auditorium design, everything in an IMAX theatre is custom designed to draw fans into the action.
Ending on a literal cliffhanger, having just survived a vast locomotive plunging off a bridge, Ethan Hunt and his fellow IMF team members – Ving Rhames’ Luther, Simon Pegg’s Benji, and converts to the cause, Grace, played by Hayley Atwell – face an uncertain future.

Pursued by agents Briggs and Degas (Shea Whigham and Greg Tarzan Davis respectively) and up against Esai Morales’ Gabriel, and requiring the help of former nemesis Paris, played by Pom Klementieff, the odds against Ethan and his team are higher than ever as they struggle to retrieve the only possible weapon that can defeat The Entity – one sitting under the polar ice cap at the bottom of the Bering Sea in the wreck of a sunken Russian submarine – The Sevastopol.

In The Final Reckoning, alongside our beloved returning heroes and villains are a host of acclaimed and fascinating fresh faces, “another world of characters, and other teams that Ethan encounters on the way,” says McQuarrie. Joining the mission are everyone from emblematic Mission: Impossible fan favorites like Angela Bassett’s Erika Sloane, Henry Czerny’s Eugene Kittridge and Rolf Saxon as William Donloe, who fans will remember from the infamous vault scene in the first Mission: Impossible.
Newcomers to the franchise include Holt McCallany (“Mindhunter”), two-time Academy Award-nominee Janet McTeer (Tumbleweeds, Albert Nobbs), Nick Offerman (“Parks and Recreation”), Hannah Waddingham (“Ted Lasso”), Tramell Tillman (“Severance”), Inuit actress Lucy Tulugarjuk, Katy O’Brian (“The Mandalorian”), and Stephen Oyoung ((Twisters).
