If there’s a Broadway musical to see this season, make it MJ the Musical. It’s no surprise the production has already become one the highest grossing musicals in history and was nominated for ten Tony Awards in 2023, winning Best Actor in a Musical, Best Choreography, Best Lighting Design and Best Sound Design.  The show is currently playing at the Neil Simon Theatre.

Whether you’re a fan of Michael Jackson or not, the contagiously thrilling music will have you stomping your feet and snapping your fingers at every turn.
The show is a journey of the superstar’s life that travels through the early days with his family until solo megastardom and preparations for a career defining world tour. Much of the controversies and salacious rumors of his later years won’t be found here.
Instead this is a feel good production, designed to entertain audiences with classic hits, exciting dancing, and vibrant sets.

You do get a hint of upcoming possible addictions, and early family conflicts with dad Joe Jackson, but for the most part the story focuses on the funny, playful, talented and charming Michael we all grew to love.

The award-winning show features several Latinos whose work has been invaluable to the continued success of the show, its extended run, and box office records, including associate choreographer Michael Balderrama.

The Broadway production has been seen by over a million spectators, has broken the Neil Simon Theatre’s box office record 11 times, and has announced four subsequent productions worldwide.  As of October 2024 MJ the Musical on Broadway has grossed over 200 million dollars with over 1.5 million attendees and over 1,100 performances.

Directed and choreographed by two-time Tony Award winner Christopher Wheeldon, with a book written by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage, MJ is produced by Lia Vollack, John Branca, and John McClain.

The production currently is also playing at London’s West End Prince Edward Theatre and is scheduled to open in Hamburg, Germany in December ’24 and in Sydney, Australia February ’25.

Tickets are available at broadwaydirect.com and at the Neil Simon box office.
