MLB and Chevy partnered to find the loudest and strongest fans for Opening Day, in an effort to identify which city will start the season for their team with the most enthusiasm and pride. Because team spirit transcends the ballpark, the brands looked to fans in the virtual stands on Opening Day by measuring which teams had the most engagement on Twitter.

To participate, fans simply used their MLB team’s official hashtag until the close of the last game on Opening Day. All tweets using the team’s official MLB hashtags were counted in the competition. Via this Crowd Meter – one team was able to claim bragging rights for being the strongest and having the best fans in baseball.

You can still see MLB and Chevy tweets sharing more on the competition.

So, who were the winners?

The NY Mets were the winning team, and the top three spots were ranked as:

  1. NY Mets
  2. Philadelphia
  3. Chicago Cubs

Since the contest was a social media-only play, the winners were revealed here on Twitter.

Chevrolet renewed its Major League Baseball sponsorship, a partnership that dates back to 2005. In addition to being the Official Vehicle Sponsor of Major League Baseball, Chevrolet is also the Official Automotive Sponsor of Major League Baseball and USA Baseball’s Play Ball Initiative.
