This coming Sunday, July 19th is National Daiquiri Day, so let’s make a toast to the classic cocktail that originated in Cuba. Named after Playa Daiquiri on the island’s southern coast, the original cocktail is a delicious mixture of rum, simple syrup and lime.
Since its inception in the early 1900’s, the Daiquiri has become a popular drink order around the world and was even known to be one of Hemingway’s favorites. The simple drink has taken on many forms throughout the years, including the bright-red frozen kind we often associate with a tropical vacation.

Ian Burrell, Global Rum Ambassador and Co-Creator of Equiano Rum, has a spiced version in mind: The Burrell Daiquiri, a concoction that adds Orange Bitters to deepen the flavor, with an orange twist to garnish.

Equiano is a completely uncompromised, 100% natural rum with no spices, no colorants, and no added sugar. A premium, new-to-market, African & Caribbean spirit that is the first of its kind; the liquid is a blend of tropically-aged molasses rums from the multi-award-winning Bajan producer, Foursquare, with high-quality new-world liquid distilled in Mauritius at Gray’s Distillery. Equiano is the first rum made from two distilleries, on two different continents, creating an exquisite, modern and matured spirit.
