Brooklyn’s Williamsburg has been trending for years as one of the nation’s most exciting neighborhoods, thriving with galleries and vibrant restaurants. Among them is Oleanders, a modern eatery serving delectable dishes and innovative cocktails in an easy, relaxed atmosphere; decorated with just enough quirky design details to make for entertaining dinner conversation between bites.
Oleanders is located within the McCarren Hotel & Pool. Executive Chef Kevin Chojnowski has created a seasonal menu that takes advantage of the fresh offerings nearby to develop a modern menu sure to please the most demanding Manhattan foodie.
According to Chef Chojnowski, “We wanted to introduce a concept that is approachable, lends itself to sharing and speaks to the vibrant neighborhood that we are located in. This new menu highlights just that: familiar menu items with our own twist that can be enjoyed anytime, whether enjoying a casual night out or celebrating a special occasion. It is beautifully complemented by the exciting new cocktail program we recently introduced at the bar.”
Among the standout appetizers are the Smoke Beef Shank Tamale, the Plate of Meat & Pickles with Smoking Goose salumi, and a Goat Cheese Fondue with market vegetables for dipping that’s perfect to share.
Composed salads and side dishes range from creamy Burrata drizzled with truffle honey, gorgeous veined greens, candy striped beets and pickled golden raisins; to perfectly charred Crispy Brussels Sprouts with contrasting sweetness from honey, Aleppo grapes and a smear of pomegranate yogurt.
Moving to the main fare you will find some unexpected twists like the Bone Marrow Cheeseburger bursting with beefy flavor from bone marrow and Pat LaFrieda meat, topped with Havarti cheese, a sunny side egg, house-made onion relish and a side of hand cut fries. As well as the tender Cider Braised Short Rib towering over creamy polenta with colorful vegetables. The Diver Scallops with Onion soup Risotto cakes, pistachio pesto and roasted beets is not to be missed.
Dessert favorites include the Blood Orange Sorbet with vanilla sponge cake, grapefruit almond granola and mascarpone pastry cream, and the Sticky Toffee Pudding with salted caramel toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream
Meanwhile Beverage Manager Francis Verrall has curated a cocktail menu that adds distinctive touches to classic drinks; an array of spirit-forward cocktails featuring seasonal ingredients and local distillers.
Signature drinks, offering a twist on classic cocktails, include the Old Oscar, a smooth blend of Bourbon with Amaro, Contratto bitter, Aztec chocolate bitters and a kick of chili spice from Ancho Reyes liqueur.
Also the Hipster Reviver, Williamsburg’s take on a Corpse Reviver No. 2, featuring local Dorothy Parker gin, citrusy Cointreau, lemon and an absinthe mist from St. George Spirits in California.
And Into the Pines, a nicely balanced gin gimlet style drink made with artisanal pine liqueur and Norwegian Linie Aquavit, creating beautiful pale pink hue.
The space’s Tiffany-style chandeliers, classic bentwood chairs and soaring accent wall – covered in the evergreen shrubs that are the restaurant’s namesake – complement the copper clad bar and checkerboard floor for an overall relaxed ambiance. Ideal for a variety of gatherings, prime bar seats and seating in front of a large open kitchen are available, while candlelit tables for two tucked into comfortable leather banquettes provide an intimate setting for date night, and a glass-enclosed private dining room accommodates up to 20 for conferences or parties.
Oleanders is located in the heart of Williamsburg. The McCarren Hotel & Pool features one of the city’s largest hotel pools and a rooftop bar with panoramic views of McCarren Park and the Manhattan skyline.
