During Saturday’s Coachella Festival, Peso Pluma ignited the main stage during weekend one with unmatched dynamic energy, charisma and his unique charm during his one-hour set inclusive of his chart-topping and award-winning hit songs.
The king of corridos opened his set with cinematic images inclusive of the late Chalino Sanchez, making a statement about Mexican culture, addressing stereotypes, and drawing comparisons between the música Mexicana movement and rap.
Morgan Freeman joined as the special guest narrator to echo sentiments about Peso’s legacy in the controversial genre and the world he was born into.
“We reflect the surroundings around us. We mirror the opportunity we are given. But for others, they grow in the shadows — where it’s what you do that defines you.”
– MORGAN FREEMAN (Coachella narration)
As the highest debut Latin artist at Coachella, Peso Pluma, draped in head to toe Prada, once again made history during his debut and offered fans a preview of what to expect during his upcoming USA Tour “ÉXODO.”
Peso Pluma kicked off his epic desert set, alongside eight musicians, with immense Mexican pride singing “Rubicon,” which spent 12 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and is one of the fan favorites from his GRAMMY Award-winning album “Genesis,” followed by “Rosa Pastel” and “Nueva Vida.” He continued with “Chanel” and introduced his first surprise guest of the evening, award-winning singer-songwriter Becky G. The pair first sang the track together during Becky G’s Coachella set last year in which Peso was a special guest.
Taking it back to some of his original hits, he performed “El Gavilan” and “El Gavilan II,” followed by his second surprise guest of the evening Junior H, who joined him on stage to perform “El Azul.” The set continued with fan-favorite “PRC,” which also sat on the Billboard Hot 100 for 20 weeks, and displayed incredible visuals inclusive of 26 dancers, a red stage, and unmatched choreography.
Showcasing his undeniable artistry and genre-fluid voice and versatility, Peso Pluma made an epic segway into Reggaeton hits “Quema” and “La Bebe Remix,” via black and white images of his synchronized dancers and a never before heard intro. The set was followed by rap track “NO SON KLLE” alongside the face of rap in Mexico, Santa Fe Klan, his fourth surprise guest of the evening. Last week, Peso Pluma dropped his newest single and trap song “Peso Completo” which he performed for the first time live on the Coachella stage alongside the trap godfather himself, Arcángel.
He continued the evening by returning to corridos and delivering brilliant performances of “AMG,” “La People” and “La People II,” alongside thought provoking imagery of new articles both criticizing and applauding his momentous year. In addition, Peso jumped off stage to get in close and personal with the thousands of devoted fans.
He closed out his Coachella set with fan favorite “Lady Gaga,” which dominated the Billboard Hot Latin Songs at number one for two consecutive weeks, bringing back the string instruments as first seen at the 2023 MTV VMAs and honoring Mexican greats including Carlos y José, Chalino Sánchez, Miguel y Miguel, Joan Sebastián, Ramón Ayala, El Halcón de la Sierra, Ramón Massiaca, Tucanes de Tijuana, Los Intocables Del Norte, Canelos de Durango, Los Profetas Del Norte, Alegres del Barranco, Sergio Vega, Valentín Elizalde, Jenni Rivera, Gerardo Ortiz, Alfredo Olivas, Grupo Cartel, Hijos de Barrón, Ariel Camacho, Los Plebes Del Rancho, Julián Mercado, Codiciado, Legado 7, Natanael Cano, Junior H, Eslabón Armado and of course himself, Peso Pluma.
