Television viewers, and Texans will have another chance to take in one of the most heart stopping and graceful sports in the world when the world’s top divers leap from Hell’s Gate in Possum Kingdom Lake, TX. For the second time in as many years the men’s and women’s Red Bull Cliff Diving divisions will dive from 90 feet and 60 feet respectively off of platforms temporarily constructed on the cliff face, reaching speeds of up to 53mph for the chance to podium. Each event in the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series will air as a full-length broadcast on FOX Sports 1, with television times to be announced soon.
It will be a special moment when 2014’s Red Bull Cliff Diving female world champion and San Antonio native, Rachelle “Rocco” Simpson returns to her home state to compete in the first stop of the women’s division in 2015. The 27-year-old ex-gymnast placed first in all three women’s events last year and will look to keep her streak alive in front of her hometown fans this May.
American hopefuls David Colturi and Steven LoBue return to fight for a victory in their home country. Colturi looks to build on his 2014 campaign which saw him finish 5th overall in the series standings while LoBue will seek to top returning champion, the UK’s Gary Hunt, in Texas where he finished 3rd behind the decorated Brit.
The only way to attend Red Bull Cliff Diving’s 2015 stop at Possum Kingdom Lake on May 30 will be via watercraft. Spectators can attend on kayaks, stand up paddleboards, personal watercrafts, or boats since – the event is floating room only. For those who want to witness the action but aren’t from the area or don’t own watercraft, the closest full service boat facility to Hell’s Gate Cove is Bluffs Creek Marina; it’s suggested that arrangements be made well in advance since rental quantities are limited. More information about the lake including where to stay can be found at PossumKingdomLake.com
As a Red Bull Original Sport, the Cliff Diving World Series airs on FOX Sports 1 as part of a stunning global sports series that also includes the Crashed Ice World Championships, Air Race World Championship and X-Fighters World Tour.
In addition to the Texas stop, the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series announced that it will make an additional seven stops around the globe including the below locations.
