Personal fitness training is just that – personal. So how do you combine a health professional’s expertise with a your own goals to create a successful program?

The American Council on Exercise (ACE)  set out to employ self-efficacy to increase your confidence in achieving personal goals. At the end, they discovered the ACE Mover Method led to the most success – starting with the basics of the alphabet:

  1. Ask open-ended questions
By creating open dialogue between yourself and a health professional, both of you can put a label on what you’re working to accomplish in the realm of fitness.
  2. Break down barriers
Obstacles are a natural part of working to achieve goals. But by calling them out and creating strategies to work around them, these obstacles can become stepping stones to success.
  3. Collaborate
The health professional has information about how to enact behavior change, and you can have proven methods of what works for you. Combining these will set a roadmap to personal success.

ACE has already seen success in folks of all backgrounds – from the active couch potato to the person who isn’t a fan of being judged. Why? Because by combining your lifestyle and self knowledge with the health professional’s expert tactics they employ, behavior change is a guaranteed outcome.
