No wonder it’s on most traveler’s ultimate bucket list!
The Grand Canyon is majestic to behold, and the experience begins at The Squire Resort.
As a new year starts and vacation plans are being made this is a destination worth discovering – or revisiting – in a brand new way.
We recently had the opportunity to explore and it’s truly an awe inspiring marvel sure to become one of those unforgettable memories you share passionately – and often.

This is Part One of our story covering all you need to know about your future stay at The Squire At Grand Canyon.

On Part Two we’ll take you inside the Park itself and the many sections to enjoy.

Getting There

The Grand Canyon is located in the northwest corner of Arizona, divided into the South, North, and West Rim.
The North Rim is only open from May through October, so it’s the South Rim which is most accessible and open all year.  This is the portion we widely explored and recommend as your introduction to the Park.

The Grand Canyon is immense, averaging 4,000 feet deep for its entire 277 miles. It is 6,000 feet deep at its deepest point and 18 miles at its widest. The most accessible way to visit is flying into Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport since it’s the closest major airport to the South  Rim with extensive flight options for travelers from anywhere in the U.S. Keep in mind you’ll have a 3.5 hour drive to the South Rim.

For a closer, more comfortable option choose Flagstaff Pulliam Airport which is only 68 miles to the site and an hour a half to the The Squire.

Once at the resort you’ll be 13 minutes away from the main entrance and visitors center.
Airlines serving the FLG airport include American, United, Alaska, SkyWest, Delta, Hawaiian, and  Qatar Airlines.

The Stay

When planning your trip consider making the The Squire at Grand Canyon the central hub for exploration.
The recently renovated family friendly resort has the essential and pleasurable amenities required for a carefree stay, and is only minutes away.
Conveniently it offers numerous exciting tours to explore the site.
Check below for some of our favorites.

On-site Fun

The resort has one of the most complete game rooms you’ll find, with a bowling alley, billiards room, and extensive selection of multiplayer classic and modern video  games.

Here you can be as active as you want with outdoor and indoor pools, a complete exercise center, and ping pong tables.

Or choose to relax in the indoor or outdoor hot tubs, or with the life size chess set, and cornhole game.

There are daily movie screenings and nightly s’mores by the fire pit.

Tour Highlights

eBike Explorer
One major draw of a holiday at the The Squire is its proximity to the Grand Canyon and effortless chance for exploration.
This is made easier with the resort’s ebike rentals program.

Different bike models are available for all ages, sizes, and skill levels. This provides a healthy alternative for touring the park. Reserve for the day, or a few hours, get your map, and be on your way. The program offers total freedom with a blend of adventure and comfort.

Trust me, this will become a prized highlight of your trip. You’ll enjoy the stunning vistas and hidden gems without breaking a sweat. Start your adventure right behind resort, on the Greenway Trail which weaves its way through the American Southwest, stretching from Tusayan into the Grand Canyon.

Adjust the level of electric assistance to suit your needs depending on whether you want a gentle scenic ride or an exhilarating adventure.

Buck Wild Hummer Tour

Second to an ebike our favorite way to explore the Grand Canyon is with a Buck Wild Hummer Tour. This scenic journey takes you to the key spots in the park with often witty and fascinating commentary from the knowledgeable guides. They’ll share the history of the region, the forces of nature that shaped the canyon, and the ancient people who inhabited the land.
The relaxing, open air drive stops throughout dozens of dramatic rock formations and gorges that took millions of years to create and are perfect for creating striking photos.
This tour is ideal for groups and families.

Canyon Under The Constellations

There are only a few designated parks in the U.S. that are Dark Sky Places, protected areas with low light pollution allowing visitors to witness infinite stars. Areas at the Grand Canyon offer complete blackout environments ideal for the clearest ways to contemplate the constellations and The Squire can coordinate your stargazing evening.

There are scheduled night sky events where you can view the Dark Sky through telescopes. Accredited resident expert astronomers are on site to answer questions and point out the stars and constellations above you.
Each event includes a talk about the James Webb Space Telescope in the Yavapai Atrium, followed by a star-viewing party.

Upcoming Night Sky talks are scheduled for the following dates:

  • Saturday, February 1: Talk at 6pm, Star Party at 7pm
  • Tuesday, March 4: Talk at 6:30pm, Star Party at 7:30pm
  • Tuesday, April 1: Talk at 7pm, Star Party at 8pm
  • Thursday, May 1: Talk at 7pm, Star Party at 8pm
  • Monday, June 2: Talk at 7pm, Star Party at 8pm

Dining

With so much to do on this adventure you need solid and healthy nourishment and The Squire at Grand Canyon has plenty of options.

Desert Lounge + Grill
The resort’s signature upscale eatery serves contemporary American dining. Start things off with the Fry Bread Taco with Pinto Beans, a blend of Cabbage, Pico de Gallo, Cheddar, Crema; move on to the Pork Belly Burnt Ends prepared with Brown Sugar Vinegar Sauce with a side of Coleslaw which are our personal favorites, or choose the Pork Green Chile made with Pork Shoulder, Green Chile Tomatillo Sauce, Cheddar, Flour Tortilla.
For the main course we recommend the Herb-Salt-Crusted Prime Rib served with Yukon Gold Potato Puree, Pole Beans, Au Jus, Creamy Horseradish Sauce or the Pollo Asado with Citrus-Chile-Grilled Boneless Half Chicken, Onion, Pinto Beans, Pico de Gallo, Flour Tortillas.
Wrap up the succulent dinner with the savory Citrus Tart or a Strawberry Buttermilk Cobbler accompanied with Vanilla Bean Gelato.

For more casual fare opt for the Squire Pub + Social. Its across from the game room, and a good way to close out a night of friendly competition with cocktails to go along with the craft pizza, burgers, or tasty wings.

Anywhere you go throughout the resort you’ll find quick dining options including the Watchtower pool bar or the Tusayan Starbucks onsite.
