Netflix is bringing the world (and history) of the highly anticipated new series Narcos: Mexico to life in New York City, November 15 – 18 (11 a.m. – 6 p.m. ET) with The Narcos: Mexico Experience. The free 21+ event is open to the public and – in the autumnal spirit – features an artificial marijuana maze, in the style of a corn maze – a nod to  “The Rockefeller of Marijuana” Miguel Felix Gallardo, and the DEA’s burning of his cannabis field which was the biggest drug seizure in history (at the time).

Guests are invited to step into the story of the new series – choosing to walk the path of the DEA or the cartel. The Narcos: Mexico Experience will feature photo-friendly moments, dope swag and an eye-opening experience of the historical occurrences reflected in the new series. Narcos: Mexico premieres worldwide November 16 on Netflix.

Here’s what you’ll find in The Narcos: Mexico Experience:

  • Looking to get history buff? Learn all the juicy facts about the real-life events surrounding the plot of Narcos: Mexico.
  • Travel through the scene of the crime—guests will navigate a maze of mirrors and artificial marijuana to look for the hidden stash.
  • Need more evidence? Photo-friendly moments including a DEA office from the 80s (complete with mugshot wall) and a cartel hideout covered in graffiti are staged throughout the experience.
  • Dope swag including Lotería cards—a traditional game of chance using images on a deck of cards—and Narcos: Mexico tees.
  • Since no marijuana maze is complete without munchies, we’ve got complimentary churros, Mexican hot chocolate, tequila, and City Vineyard’s El Padrino margarita to keep guests warm and in the Narcos: Mexico spirit.

Narcos: Mexico Synopsis

Before becoming the most powerful figure in the Mexican cocaine trade, Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo (Diego Luna) sees potential among Mexico’s independent and relatively disorganized marijuana growers. Gallardo uses his business sense and high-powered connections to build a confederation of growers and dealers. As his empire expands, Félix becomes more ruthless, eventually abandoning marijuana for cocaine and partnering with Colombian cartels to help transport their drugs across the border.

At Félix’s side are Rafael “Rafa” Caro Quintero (Tenoch Huerta), a marijuana grower and the cartel’s co-founder who becomes desperate and unhinged after its shift to cocaine; Don Neto (Joaquín Cosío), an elder co-founder who serves as a bridge between the old-school plaza system and the new powerful cartel; Amado Carrillo Fuentes (José María Yazpik), Don Neto’s nephew who pilots jets to transport drugs and craves more power; and Maria Elvira (Fernanda Urrejola ), Félix’s wife and the mother of his young children.

Meanwhile, American DEA agent Kiki Camarena (Michael Peña) moves his pregnant wife and young son to Guadalajara to take on a new assignment. Once there, he realizes he might have an impossible task: Not only does the Guadalajara Cartel pay to keep Mexican government and law enforcement officials on its side, the American government doesn’t always respond to the DEA, a relatively new organization.

Despite low resources and an uphill battle, Kiki is highly motivated to catch Gallardo and his cohorts. He leans on fellow DEA agents and his supervisor, James “Jaime” Kuykendall (Matt Letscher), though ultimately, he decides he must trust his own instincts.

The battle between law enforcement and the Guadalajara Cartel comes to a head in a tragic series of events that would launch the modern-day drug war. For decades to come, neither side would be the same.
