Celebrate Latin Arts With El Museo’s Gala And Silent Auction This Week

El Museo del Barrio will celebrate the grand return of its annual Gala this Thursday, September 7 at The Plaza in New York City. This year, the event will honor Juan Beckmann, family owner of the Jose Cuervo brand of tequila, and artist Coco Fusco.

The  Gala is the Museum’s largest fundraiser, a celebration of the cultural richness and diversity of the Latinx diaspora in the United States, as well as the Caribbean and Latin America. This signature event is a testament to the significance of the Museum in the art world-at-large.

Since its founding in 1969, El Museo has been at the forefront of cultural empowerment for more than 65 million Latinos nationwide. The Gala directly supports the mission to present and preserve the art and culture of Puerto Ricans, Latinos, and Latin Americans in the United States through an ever-expanding Permanent Collection, critically acclaimed exhibitions, innovative programs, and bilingual education initiatives.

This year Beckmann is honored in recognition and appreciation of his longstanding and generous support of El Museo and the arts.
The other honoree is Coco Fusco, an interdisciplinary artist, writer, and distinguished professor at the Cooper Union, whose work has offered sharp commentary on the power dynamics and politics of cultural representation, war, race, and gender for nearly 30 years.
El Museo del Barrio’s Gala 2023 is supported by Maestro Dobel Tequila.

As part of Gala, in partnership with Artsy, El Museo will host a silent art auction showcasing art from over 20 partnering artists and galleries, including works from Bony Ramirez, Ilana Savdie, Justin Favela, Juan Sanchez, Farley Aguilar, Felipe Baeza, Carolina Caycedo, Yvette Mayorga, and more. Bidding will close on September 12th.

The countdown timer on the artwork pages will display the end time for the lot. Each lot closes in 1-minute increments and will be reset to 2 minutes if a bid is placed within the 2 minutes before the lot’s scheduled closing time. For further information please see FAQ here.
