With National Mezcal Day approaching on October 21st, there are two places perfect for the celebrating. Wayam Mundo Imperial in Merida, Mexico and Mexico Grand Hotels in Los Cabos, Mexico are beautiful and filled with exciting amenities.

Mexico Grand Hotels:

Guests of Hacienda Encantada Resort & Residences are invited to embark on an immersive culinary journey through Mexico’s rich tradition of distilled spirits at the resort’s on-site Museo del Tequila. This unique experience highlights the art and history behind four iconic Mexican spirits: tequila, mezcal, sotol, and bacanora.

During the journey, guests will learn not only the distillation methods but also the cultural significance each spirit holds within Mexico’s history. The museum’s engaging tastings provide a hands-on understanding of how these spirits are crafted. This experience at Museo del Tequila offers guests a flavorful way to explore Mexico’s legendary spirits and deepen their appreciation of the origins behind these iconic beverages.

Mundo Imperial:

The on-site restaurant, Cuna, features the signature cocktail, Colón 508 . This unique cocktail perfectly represents Merida’s culinary scene, showcasing the rich flavors of Mexico and highlighting mezcal’s versatility.

Colon 508
Ingredients:

  • 2 oz Montelobos Espadín Mezcal
  • 1 oz house-preserved tamarind
  • 0.75 oz Yucatecan lime juice
  • 0.5 oz morita chili syrup

Pair the Colón 508, with grilled seafood or spicy tacos for the best experience. The smokiness in the mezcal complements char-grilled flavors beautifully.

Choosing Mezcal:

When selecting a mezcal for your cocktail, keep these tips in mind:

  • Look for 100% agave mezcal for authentic flavor.
  • The Espadín variety offers a balanced profile ideal for cocktails.
  • Seek mezcals with moderate smokiness to avoid overpowering other ingredients.
