Groundbreaking South African artist, Johnathan Schultz will unveil work from his ‘Follow the Flowers’ series at prestigious Art Palm Beach on January 22 – 26, 2025. Several pieces of artwork will be displayed at this year’s winter art fair, which takes place in Florida. Renowned for his innovative use of diamonds and precious metals, Schultz’s latest work fuses artistry and emotion in the delicate new series.
A bold, thought-provoking creative whose work lies in the intersection of luxury, history and storytelling, these new works explore texture and dimension through smudged pencil techniques, adding depth and a contemporary edge to the 2D medium. Johnathan draws inspiration from nature and society, as well as iconic world leaders, including Nelson Mandela. Previously Johnathan has incorporated one-of-a-kind artifacts from Robben Island, where Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years to juxtapose resilience and social justice.
He recently showed at JECT during Art Basel last year, and has exhibited work at Art Miami and Hamptons Art Fair. He was the headline artist at the inaugural Le Art Noir ‘Diversity in Colour’ Art Fair at Art Basel Miami Beach several years ago. Iconic pieces include the largest diamond art work in the world, Diamond Fingerprint, which contained over 9,225 diamonds. The Out of the Darkness Diamond fingerprint was recreated from Nelson Mandela’s fingerprint on his arrest warrant using diamonds and white gold and reflects South Africa’s natural wealth, and Mandela’s enduring legacy.
“My ‘Follow the Flowers’ series is an evolution from my earlier ‘Out of the Darkness’ collection, where I embrace vibrant color and retro-inspired lines to push my creative boundaries,” said Johnathan Schultz. “By combining diverse techniques and gold — a material I deeply love — I challenged myself to create pieces that are both unique and strikingly beautiful. Flowers symbolize peace, joy, happiness, and life; placing them on gold transforms each painting into a radiant, living piece of art. Through Follow the Flowers, I wanted to share an uplifting fusion of emotion, artistry, and innovation.”
Schultz’s meticulous craftsmanship combines precious materials with emotional significance to spark conversations about the world and humanity. His new series embraces joy and emotion. Johnathan’s art will be at Booth 103.
