Founded in 1846 by John Dewar Sr., Dewar’s is the top-selling blended Scotch whisky in the United States and one of the largest whisky names in the world.
The brand recently introduced Dewar’s 18 Founders Reserve with limited availability. Rare whiskies were selected and the Master Blender employed the ‘marrying’ process which makes the blend unique. The process takes fine Scotch whiskies and ages them for a minimum of eighteen years in oak barrels in Scotland, then they are combined into old sherry casks where they will continue to age an additional six months.
This ‘double-aging’ or ‘marrying’ process has been pioneered by Dewar’s and few distilleries employ the technique as it is expensive and time-consuming. But according to Dewar’s Amanda K. Hawk, “The process is like an orchestra coming together and having time to rehearse. It ensures that individual flavors and aromas harmonize to achieve a perfectly balanced and exceptionally smooth Scotch.”
Each bottle of Dewar’s 18 is individually numbered and retails for $80.00.
