Cad & The Dandy (C&TD) was founded by Ian Meiers and James Sleater in 2008 and is the youngest tailoring house on Savile Row in London.  They have a modern approach to tailoring with an uncompromising attention to style and craft that has garnered a loyal following.  Now there is a New York location – The Penthouse – showcasing the fine quality, bespoke, British tailoring that every man desires for one of the most important days of his life.

What is Bespoke?
A bespoke suit is the best fitting garment one can procure.  All bespoke suits are custom, but not all custom suits are bespoke.

  • Custom: Measurements are taken, input is given on how a suit should fit and a garment is created based on an already established size range and pattern.  The suit arrives finished.
  • Bespoke: There is a consultation about style, fit, cloth, details, etc.  Measurements are taken and a unique, individual pattern is created by a pattern maker on Savile Row in London. An initial version of a suit, called a toile, is created for a first fitting and adjustments.  That toile is then used as a pattern to make the suit in the desired fabric.  Approximately 5 weeks later the suit returns and there is a final fitting, with any last alterations being made in the New York Penthouse.  The entire process takes 8-10 weeks at C&TD.

“We see customers multiple times when making a bespoke garment so we can refine the fit to be perfect. All suits are handmade with full floating canvases and impeccable fabrics, allowing for a beautiful shape and finish,” explains Steve Knorsch, Managing Director USA, Cad & The Dandy.

Cad & The Dandy specializes in bespoke suits and formal wear, as well as casual wear and outerwear – perfect for engagement photos, rehearsal dinners, destination weddings, extended celebrations and even morning after brunches.  They are one of the few tailors in the US that crafts morning suits and white tie.  They also provide guidance on completing ensembles with shoes, shirts, cufflinks, ties, bowties, pocket squares and other accessories, for both grooms and groomsmen.  From cozy intimate affairs to multi-event extravaganzas abroad, Cad & The Dandy elevates special occasions with bespoke British style.

“It’s more than just buying a suit; we create a full experience at The Penthouse.  Anything from a quiet affair between a bride and groom or partners, to an entire groom’s party sipping curated cocktails during a fitting,” adds Knorsch.  “And the beauty of it is, every aspect of each suit is totally customized and unique to the wearer, from cloth to lining, lapels, buttons, pockets and more.  And their pattern can be used to create additional suits in the future…once you wear a bespoke suit, it’s hard to wear anything else.”
