Wonder Bread Returns To The Thanksgiving Parade With The Wondership – And A Perfect Recipe For The Holidays

To celebrate Wonder Bread’s second year participating in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, the popular brand has created a delicious recipe to enjoy throughout the holidays. Be sure to catch the return of the Wondership on Thursday November 23rd during the Parade’s live broadcast on NBC -and streaming on Peacock – from 9AM -12PM ET.

At a special media-only event held in New York‘s De Gustibus Cooking School inside Macy’s Herald Square, Food Network personality and celebrity chef Katie Lee Biegel led a class teaching guests how to level-up their cooking game.

We are including the recipe below so you too can share with family an easy to make holiday treat. You can now delight in the taste of Wonder with Katie Lee’s Caramelized Apple Stuffed French Toast Sandwich. This is the the perfect solution for families to enjoy on Thanksgiving morning as they watch the parade.

For more than 100 years, Wonder Bread has brought joy, wonder, and innovation to families across the country, and this year the Wondership will once again be seen parading down the streets of New York City at the 97th Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Katie Lee Biegel’s Caramel Apple French Toast Sandwiches Recipe

This unique holiday recipe layers warm apples between soft Wonder Classic White Bread coated with corn cereal, powdered sugar, and a drizzle of caramel.

Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Serves: 4

FOR CARAMELIZED APPLES:

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice

  • 2 crisp apples, (like gala or Braeburn), peeled and thinly sliced

  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

FOR SANDWICHES:

  • 8 slices Wonder Classic White Bread

  • 6 tablespoons whipped cream cheese

  • 4 large eggs, whisked

  • 1/4 cup whole milk

  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1 cup finely crushed corn cereal

  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • Confectioners sugar, for dusting

  • Caramel sauce, for drizzling

  • Whipped cream, for topping

FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

  1. In a nonstick skillet, melt 1/4 cup unsalted butter over medium heat.

  2. Add brown sugar, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt to the skillet. Stir until butter dissolves.

  3. Add apples and cinnamon to the skillet. Reduce heat to medium low and stir often for 8-10 minutes.

  4. Once the apples have softened, remove from heat.

  5. Spread whipped cream cheese on one side of each slice of Wonder® Classic White Bread.

  6. Spoon an even amount of apples onto the cream cheese side of four slices of bread.

  7. Add the remaining slices of bread, placing the cream cheese side down, facing the apples. You will have four sandwiches.

  8. Whisk the eggs, milk, granulated sugar and vanilla together in a shallow dish.

  9. Carefully dip each side of the sandwiches in the egg mixture.

  10. Cover both sides of the sandwiches with crushed corn cereal.

  11. Melt 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter on a griddle over medium heat.

  12. Cook each sandwich for 2 to 3 minutes per side or until golden brown. Remove from heat.

  13. Lightly dust the sandwiches with powdered sugar, top with whipped cream, and drizzle with caramel sauce.

  14. Serve while warm and enjoy every delicious bite.
