Attending this year’s New York Fashion Week: Men’s we had a chance to not only sit front row to bring you the fashions coming Fall/Winter ’16; but we also went backstage to give you an update on the latest hair trends. To do this we spoke to Lisa-Raquel, the lead hairstylist for the Carlos Campos show. In an exclusive interview she shares the upcoming hair looks and her favorite products to always remain stylish.

Hailing from Bremerton, Washington, Lisa-Raquel began her career at the urging of her grandmother, a hairstylist herself. Studying at the Paul Mitchell Academy and assisting at the Aveda Salon, Lisa-Raquel worked in Seattle for a number of years, before finally settling in New York City. She has worked with countless Hollywood men including Jared Leto, Anthony Mackie, Ethan Hawke, Ben Stiller, Elijah Wood and Terrence Howard.  Her easy, feminine and loose touch, and her ability to set hair without torturing it; has made her a favorite for designers, clients and now hair brands.

Carlos Campos Men's RTW Fall 2016

H: What’s the look you are creating for the Carlos Campos Collection?
LR: Carlos has created a character who’s this nomadic, well dressed guy that loves to explore and right now he’s touring Central America. He’s been traveling through the small villages and the islands but now he’s getting ready to go into the mountains. The air is getting different and his skin is going to be drier and his hair is going to be drier. Everything last season was more dewy and moist because of the humidity; now we’re going to the coffee plantations, so he’s wearing his hair a little more natural. With the shorter hair we’re pushing everything forward, we’re drying it, we’re using a lot of the natural products. The AXE Natural Look we love. It freely breaks the hair without getting too sticky so we have this nice texture, a little of the natural bend, pushing forward in the front and then using the AXE Messy Look because for dryness.

H: What’s new for the season in terms of hair?
LR: A lot more natural. We’ve had things very barbered and perfected over the years with the beard and the hair. Now it’s getting a little looser, things are getting a little more natural. We still love a pomade, but I feel the Messy Look is the drier texture that we’re going for. It‘s kind of a paste. A paste works great for so many different hair types. It’s one of my favorite products that I reach for and they’ve done such a great job.

H: How long have you worked with AXE?
LR: Just over a year. I was at the launch for their hair product line and we love them. They’re very versatile and there’s something from the line for everyone. Any way you want to style your hair, we found something on this line for every single person. I haven’t used anything else on the models. It’s very versatile and it’s so accessible. And the re-branding and the repackaging is beautiful. And the smell, they’re softer, not as fragrant as some of the stuff we many have expected in the past. The fragrances are fresh and new, and a little calmer I would say.

H: How is it to work on the hair for the Carlos Campos show?
LR: I’m excited to work with AXE and Carlos Campos because they’re working together. They have a really cool concept. It’s a fun look to create.

H: What are some of the hair products you would recommend?
LR: I love their Clean Cut Look, this is their pomade for a more firm look; it’s soft, but gives you a little bit of shine.axe MessyUrban-US_AXH_6oz_MatteGel_FOP

The Messy Look is my favorite because I love that dry textured look. I love a molding paste and they’ve done a great job with it. This paste goes so beautifully onto the hair and I like that. axe SpikedUpAdrenaline-US_AXH_6oz_ExtrmeGel_FOPThe Spiked Look, this is for the guy who wants a little bit more structure to his hair. It goes on creamy but then you use the blow dryer and you can create any kind of mohawk or fauxhawk, anything you want. That one would hold it up.
Basically everything.
