Two-time Masters Champion Bubba Watson demonstrated the importance of restorative sleep in being victorious on the green, during an intimate workshop at the airweave store in SoHo, NYC. Watson, a global ambassador for airweave premium bedding toppers, has relied on the brand since 2012 to help him achieve the deep and recuperative sleep necessary for maintaining his peak athletic performance.

“As a professional golfer, I am on the road all the time and it can be difficult to get quality sleep in a different bed each week,” said Watson. “airweave has helped me consistently get a good night’s sleep, and makes the routine of being on the road a lot easier.”

The exclusive in-store event commenced with a brief presentation from airweave President and CEO Motokuni Takaoka, PGA Champion Bubba Watson, and U.S. Olympic Committee representative, who discussed the science behind airweave’s cutting-edge design and the role that restorative sleep plays in athletic performance and recovery.

Takaoka also spoke about a recent sleep study led by Stanford Professor Seiji Nishino, M.D., Ph.D., which found that airweave mattress toppers not only provide a higher-quality sleep overall, but they induce a rapid and continuous decline in core body temperature during the earliest phases of sleep, which results in substantially larger and longer-lasting amounts of deep, stage-4 sleep.

During the event, the U.S. Olympic Committee also officially announced plans to install 130 airweave bedding toppers throughout their Olympic Training Centers in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Chula Vista, California to help ensure quality sleep for their U.S. Olympic hopefuls as they train for the upcoming Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Based on science-backed Japanese sleep technology, airweave premium bedding toppers are made of three-dimensional, entwined resin fibers that allow air to occupy more than 90% of the material. airweave offers comfortable support and improves sleep quality through its ergonomic, breathable design, and highly resilient material that allows users to roll over easily and maintain a deep and restorative sleep. Designed to fit directly atop existing mattresses, airweave premium bedding toppers dissipate heat and moisture to regulate and lower the body’s core temperature, while evenly dispersing body weight to alleviate joint pressure and physical strain, so the user awakes fully rested and rejuvenated.

“It is an honor to formalize our relationship with Bubba and to have one of the most dynamic golfers in the world attest to the quality of our product,” said Takaoka. “Recovery through sleep is a critical factor in maintaining peak performance and airweave provides the peace of mind and body that a good night’s sleep brings.”

In 2004, Takaoka took over a struggling manufacturing operation in Japan that produced plastic injection molding machines used to make fishing nets; he discovered that the resin fibers used to construct the nets could be adapted to create a new type of bedding product, and after perfecting the design, launched airweave in 2007. The company quickly rose as the category leader in Japan, and in 2014, airweave made its U.S. debut with its first freestanding flagship store in New York City’s SoHo district.
