Upon stepping foot at Cala Luna Boutique Hotel & Villas, guests enter a transcendent, sustainable experience where every element of the property is meant to instill wellness, from the hotel’s free daily fitness classes and complimentary bicycle rental, to farm-to-table cuisine and holistic spa treatments at Lahari Wellness Center. In addition to the hotel’s exciting retreat packages, guests can now go a step further and curate their own custom retreat for the ultimate wellness getaway.

Inspired by its native Costa Rican setting, Cala Luna houses a range of distinct offerings for guests seeking to address mind, body and spirit, perks that earned the hotel the title of Most Innovative Wellness Hotel from the Global Beauty & Wellness Awards, the world’s premier independent beauty and wellness awards recognizing outstanding achievements in brand innovation and sustainability across the cosmetics, personal care, food supplement and hotel industries around the world. Retreat activities include kirtan and sound baths; holistic yoga; freeform ecstatic dance; live music and body painting; natural blue clay transformation experience; drum circles; magical cacao ceremonies; a detox program; and even a kids’ mindfulness program. A certified yoga and mindfulness teacher will lead guests from four to 10 years old through arts and crafts, yoga, meditation, and nature conservation.

“It’s an honor to be recognized for our wellness innovations as travelers grow increasingly conscious in their travels,” said Federico Pilurzu, general manager of Cala Luna and former pro surfer. “From our open-air concept to our solar energy to our special retreat customization program, we want guests to check out feeling a sense of renewal and relaxation.”

The dining at Cala Luna addresses wellness from the inside, featuring organic, local and sustainable fare at Calamoresca Restaurant and the poolside Caletta Restaurante Lounge & Bar. Meals are complemented by an ample wine list that is organic and bio-dynamic.

Cala Luna grows organic fruits and vegetables for use at the hotel at La Senda, a nearby 74-acre farm and labyrinth. La Senda also hosts nightly farm-to-table dinners featuring seasonal produce. With no fixed menu, the menu is ever-evolving based on the day’s harvest. True to the hotel’s holistic lens, diners can pair their farm-to-table dinner with activities including guided meditation or yoga in the labyrinth; tour of the organic garden; Kirtan concert; sound journey; ancient healing cacao ceremony; a temazcal or inipi ceremony; Wim Hof breathing session and ice bath therapy. La Senda also offers a Secret & Sacred medicinal garden experience for guests to learn the magic of the farm’s endemic ingredients; a “WannaBee” honey tour; and cooking classes.
