Fourth of July will be here next week and it’s the perfect time to bring some spirit to the fireworks and festivities. Check below for hosting tips and tasty cocktail recipes from PATRÓN Tequila and PATRÓN National Programming & Education Specialist Roberto Núñez Moreno.

Hosting Tips with PATRÓN Tequila:

HOMBRE: Best food pairings for PATRÓN Reposado cocktails?
Roberto Núñez Moreno: Described by Master Distiller Francisco Alcaraz as a tequila kissed by the oak, PATRÓN Reposado is a lightly-aged tequila from the brand’s core line. This makes it unique because it still has the citrus notes of an unaged tequila while also having the vanilla and honey notes of an aged tequila, making it a versatile option for food pairings. Personally, I would suggest to enjoy it alongside:

  • A “Torta Ahogada” de Camarón: A signature dish from Guadalajara made with carnitas or shrimp.

  • Intense cheeses like Gruyère, Comté, Cheddar or Cotija cheese

  • “Uchepos”: A young corn tamale served with sour cream and salsa.

H: Favorite ways to spice up traditional PATRÓN Reposado cocktails?

RNM: There is no better way to spice something up than adding chili.
If you make a PATRÓN Perfect Paloma, I would invite you to add an extra “P” to the name, and make it “Picante”. My suggestion is: 1.5oz PATRÓN Reposado, ½ oz lime juice, ½ oz Chile Serrano Oleum Saccharum, pinch of salt, 2.5 oz grapefruit juice, and top it with sparkling water.

H: Go-to cocktail for hosting and why?
RNM: Besides the PATRÓN Perfect Paloma, my favorite cocktail to make when hosting people is what I call the “Honey Drop”, a variation of the Penicillin cocktail.

My suggested recipe would be: 2oz of PATRÓN Reposado, 1oz Honey Ginger Syrup, ¾ oz of lemon juice. It is shaken and poured over ice. Finish with ¼ oz floater of PATRÓN Añejo and a caramelized ginger for garnish.

PATRÓN Reposado BBQ Smoked Margarita
The flavors of smoke and BBQ savoriness make the classic, citrusy ingredients of this margarita shine in the summer sun.

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 oz Patrón Reposado

  • .5 oz Citrónge Orange Liqueur

  • .5 oz Lime juice

  • .5 oz Agave syrup

  • 3 drops Liquid smoke

  • + 1:1 BBQ rub & salt rim

Method

  • In a shaker tin with ice, add all ingredients and shake to chill.

  • Strain over fresh ice in a rocks glass.

  • Garnish with a lime wheel and BBQ rub & salt rim.

Aged three-to-five months in a combination of used American, French and Hungarian oak barrels, PATRÓN Reposado maintains roasted agave flavors unique to PATRÓN, while mingling in perfect harmony with hints of light oak. As a favorite among many, the PATRÓN Reposado flavor profile is a balanced medley of pumpkin, pear, vanilla, cinnamon, fruit and more.
