The Chelsea-based men’s salon Barba Men’s Grooming Boutique was a hit from the moment it opened. In-the-know gentlemen and celebrities from Neil Patrick Harris to Marc Jacobs enjoyed their fresh approach and unique array of services. Now, with New York in Phase 4, the men’s groomer is once again open for business. At Barba, clients – who also include Billy Porter and husband Adam Porter-Smith are invited to relax in the clean, modern space and enjoy complimentary drinks and beach-vibe house music.

Xavier Cruz, owner of Barba

“We saw the need for a different kind of space for men’s grooming,” says Xavier Cruz, the owner of Barba, known for his long-running eponymous Manhattan salon. From inventing Anderson Cooper’s “Coop” haircut to styling hit shows including Hairspray, The Boy from Oz, The Vagina Monologues, and styled army of Eminem lookalikes for the MTV Music Video Awards, they bring high-quality results and innovative techniques to every job.

Barba offers an extensive portfolio of services for the modern man. From scissor cuts to skin fades, single process to double process highlights and grey blending to beard grooming and waxing. They also have facials for your derriere. Introducing The “Man-Bum” facial, which includes a 24K gold mask for your… bum.

When it comes to receding hairlines, the salon has you covered. Offered for the first time in an all men’s salon, Sombra Scalp Micropigmentation – which is a highly advanced method of cosmetic pigmentation, it’s similar to the process of getting a tattoo, tiny needles are used to add colored pigment to areas absent from hair. www.instagram.com/p/BpmXyyrnL2C/.

“We want to transform the men’s grooming industry,” says partner JP Gomez, noting that once a month they bring in Los Angeles eyebrow experts – Perfect Frame, who are behind Janet Jackson’s brows. “We bring 30 years of expertise in the industry to our clients while always staying up to date with the latest and greatest treatments – many of which can be found at no other men’s salon in New York.”

To ensure the comfort and safety of their customers during COVID-19, Barba has reduced the number of chairs by 50 percent and installed dividers to maintain social distancing. Meanwhile, all of their stylists thoroughly sanitize their stations before and after each client “which is a big deal for those who want to feel safe while sitting in a shop,” says Cruz.
