HOMBRE Exclusive: Rolls-Royce Reigns – 24 Hours With The 2021 Ghost Is Ethereal

It’s been a few years since I’ve been behind the wheel of a Rolls-Royce. So when given the opportunity to spend an entire day with the 2021 Rolls-Royce Ghost, I was beyond thrilled to have some quality time with this bespoke big-bodied baby.

Now, let me say this upfront. I love all things luxury. But the Rolls-Royce brand takes extravagance to an entirely different level—just not a superficial one. And I am okay with that. This post opulent model exudes class, comfort, confidence, and charm.

When I was ready to go for a spin, I looked to the electronic dashboard (where the satellite navigation system and other features are located) in hopes of pressing an “R” on the screen to reverse. But I couldn’t find one. So I then gazed at the center console and started pressing buttons but still nothing. After about 10 long minutes of trying to figure out how to reverse out of my parking space in the garage, I realized that as technologically advanced as this vehicle is, some things are still done in an old-school fashion. To reverse, you have to use the gear selector like in an everyday car. You pull the selector down and, just like that, the “R” appears.

Once I was able to reverse, I jumped on the highway and headed north. I couldn’t even feel the Rolls-Royce on the road but I could tell others knew it was there. As I mentioned earlier, it’s big. This 2021 Ghost comes with a 129.7-inch wheelbase, all-wheel drivetrain, and a minimalistic silver-hued exterior. I felt like I was riding on a big cloud or a magic carpet—it was heavenly. Out of this world, quite frankly.

And to complement this aura, just one look at the “shooting star” headliner roof had me daydreaming while the Rolls was parked, of course!

Some of my favorite features include the dual television screens, which pop out with the touch of a button located on the back of the chic vehicle’s front seats. And I love the effortless doors (they now open and close electronically) where with one press of a button, an umbrella is released from a door storage compartment (not new to the Rolls-Royce) so my chauffeur or date can gracefully escort me in the rain to the front door of a restaurant without my hair getting wet. Another highlight is the convenience of having heated massage seats without even having to visit a spa!

The Rolls-Royce Ghost is in its own stratosphere. Its supple leather seats with monogrammed headrests are the perfect touch to a drive-in movie night. The $300,000-plus Ghost is even ideal for a drive-thru. I took the flawless model to Andy’s Frozen Custard. I loved the contrast of eating a tasty concrete topped with Oreos inside this rich ride. It’s no wonder that Kris Jenner—an avid Rolls-Royce collector–fell in love with her black metallic 2021 Ghost, which was the first model delivered in North America. I’m sure she’s toted her grandchildren—snacks and all—around in this majestic marque.

The new Ghost is truly “perfection in simplicity.” From rubbing my feet on its lambswool mats to seeing the Spirit of Ecstasy, which represents energy, grace, and beauty, on the hood of the vehicle, every detail is well-thought-out. And rightfully so. As engineer Sir Henry Royce (Rolls-Royce cofounder) once said, “Take the best that exists and make it better.” Mission accomplished.
