Mister Cartoon and Nike have a long history of collaboration and three new Cortez by Mister Cartoon sneakers are the next chapter of this partnership. As one of the pioneers in crafting LA street culture via art, tattoos, cars and love for the Cortez sneaker, Mister Cartoon is deemed one of the “Godfathers” of Los Angeles. Leveraging his expertise and credibility within LA street culture, he brings energy around these  silhouettes he designed for the cultural creators of tomorrow.

According to Mr. Cartoon, “These shoes, you’re able to go anywhere [in them]. They represent what I grew up with in the streets of L.A. I see the new kids embracing the Cortex because of the simplicity and because of the classic history to it. I think a lot of people’s favorite is the navy blue denim Cortez. The reason we did the diamond pattern is to represent the interiors in our lowriders.”

The new Cortez by Mister Cartoon pack is made up of 3 distinct silhouettes. The 3 sneakers are a premium white sneaker, navy blue and black, all 3 customized with elements hand drawn and designed by Mister Cartoon. These products are positioned as the most premium Cortez sneaker based on their materials and design.

The white silhouette replaced the Swoosh with a custom Cortez graphic on the side. On the back of the shoes Cartoon has implemented the “smile now, cry later masks.” The front of the shoe features a metal emblem on the bottom lace identifying the artist behind the collaboration, and a custom woven label on the tongue depicts the 45-year anniversary of the Cortez. The base of the Cortez will feature a top layer of white, middle black, and the bottom is a classic rubber gum.

The black silhouette embodies the elements from the first two original Cortez shoes, reimagining the concept and combining both original designs into one new creation. It features a black silhouette with a large and redesigned “LA” graphic on the side, incorporating the Swoosh as part of this element. On the back of the shoes Cartoon has written the words Los Angeles in his signature script lettering. The front of the shoe features a metal emblem on the bottom lace identifying the artist behind the collaboration, and a custom woven label on the tongue depicts the 45-year anniversary of the Cortez. The base of the Cortez will feature a top layer of white, middle black, and the bottom is a classic rubber gum.

The navy blue silhouette features the iconic Nike Swoosh on the side over an adjusted quilt stitch pattern inspired by the stitching in the Chevy Impala in the background. On the back of the shoes Cartoon has designed a classic LA logo in his signature script lettering. The front of the shoe features a metal emblem on the bottom lace identifying the artist behind the collaboration, and a custom woven label on the tongue depicts the 45-year anniversary of the Cortez.
